Reed College seeks a dynamic and student-oriented science and scholarly communication librarian to collaborate closely with faculty and students in the natural sciences, mathematics, and computer science, supporting teaching, research activities, and scholarly communication. Reed is a liberal arts college with strong science programs and a record of producing substantial numbers of STEM graduates. This position reports to the Director of Research Services.
This is a full-time, exempt position working 37.5 hours per week on a Monday through Friday schedule, with occasional evening and weekend hours. Starting salary is $60,000-$64,000 commensurate with qualifications, background, and experience. What You'll Do
Provide instruction and research assistance and conduct other outreach activities that support research and scholarship in the sciences.
Contribute to and manage library collections and resources that support the sciences.
Provide expertise in scholarly communications and publishing.
Play a leadership role in promoting and coordinating open access publishing.
Participate in professional activities of the library and the college by leading or serving on committees, providing training and educational opportunities for staff, and developing and maintaining connections with local, regional, and national professional communities.
Knowledge of academic research and practice in mathematics, computer science, and natural sciences.
Knowledge of current issues in scholarly communication and publishing practices.
Knowledge of lab methods and practices and how those intersect with scholarly communications.
Ability to collaborate with others and manage multiple priorities and projects.
Strong interest in contributing to the library’s research assistance, instruction, and outreach initiatives.
A passion for promoting the use of library collections and services in the undergraduate curriculum, particularly in mathematics and the sciences.
ALA-accredited master’s degree in library or information science
An academic degree in science or an equivalent combination of education and experience working in the sciences.
Organizational, planning, communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
Experience or interest in supporting diverse populations of students, faculty, and community members.
