Assistant Librarian, Library','18000000BG','!*!Pay Grade: 38 (Exempt, minimum $38,500)Position SummaryThis position provides outreach, instruction, and public services supporting Pendergrass Library (https://www.lib.utk.edu/agvet/applicants/) and the UT Institute of Agriculture (UTIA). This position identifies, creates, implements and assesses library instruction, information resources, and outreach and engagement initiatives for constituencies served by Pendergrass Library. Clients served include undergraduate and graduate students, researchers, faculty, and staff. Services provided by this position include in-person and online instruction, web page and tutorial development, promotional campaign management, targeted social media outreach, and marketing and branding. The position also provides scheduled and on-call public service desk support and coordinates with other campus units to provide in-library services for students, faculty, researchers, and clinicians. This position manages service partnerships with the UTIA and other student success groups on campus. This position's duties require collaboration with partners in the UT Libraries, the UTIA, and UTK.ResponsibilitiesInstruction: Formulate, develop and assess instruction classes, technologies, and tutorials. • Collaborate with UT Libraries colleagues to plan and develop information literacy instruction that supports the UT Libraries and the UTIA• Create and teach instructional sessions to support information technology and library resources (e.g. using e-books; citation management tools; multi-media equipment)• Participate in Pendergrass instruction assessment activities• Formulate and create video and web-based tutorials and learning objects• Organize and lead library orientations, tours and events • Represent Pendergrass Library as an active participant on library and university instruction and general education committees, workgroups, etc.• Additional instructional duties as assignedOutreach & Engagement: Formulate, develop, and implement library outreach and engagement initiatives for Pendergrass Library.• Design, promote, implement, and assess outreach activities to connect users with UT Libraries’ spaces and services • Collaborate with the Pendergrass team and relevant library committees to maintain and develop the library’s web services and pages• Manage Pendergrass Library’s social media presence and brand identity • Cultivate and maintain cooperative partnerships with student success units across campus (e.g. Writing Center and Statistical Consulting)• Connect library resources and services to a variety of patron groups by developing and initiating customized outreach, training, and support • Communicate with library users to help identify, develop, and assess services and collections• Direct student library assistants to support communication, marketing, and outreach activities• Represent Pendergrass Library as an active participant on library and university outreach and engagement committees, workgroups, etc. • Additional outreach & engagement duties as assignedPublic & Research Services: Participate in in-person and virtual public services.• Develop training materials and point-of-use instruction for supporting public services technologies, spaces, and collections• Oversee public service desk functions at Pendergrass Library during assigned shifts• Implement and interpret library policies related to circulation desk functions. Check out resources, add patron records, process incoming books, place holds and recalls on books, collect and waive fines • Assist patrons (by phone, chat, and in-person) with general reference questions and database searching and provide specialized assistance to users of multimedia equipment, government documents and Institute of Agriculture publications• Refer patrons to appropriate staff and librarian experts• Make recommendations about relevant equipment and software purchases supporting graphic arts and creativity tools• Coordinate with UT Libraries’ Studio, OIT, and others in support of public services and selecting technologies• Contribute to planning, policy development, and other department efforts in meetings and as assigned• Additional public & research services as assigned','!*!QualificationsRequired:• Master’s degree in Library & Information Sciences or equivalent library degree. Candidates completing degrees by May 2018 are encouraged to apply. The expected start date for this position is June 2018• Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment, accompanied by a creative, flexible, positive and proactive attitude• Ability to work on complex problems, find solutions and make independent decisions• Ability to work well with faculty, staff, students, and members of the general public• Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to balance multiple tasks and set priorities• Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, including public speaking and instruction • Knowledge of Windows operating system and familiarity with MS Office applications• Ability to learn new software and systems• Knowledge of social media, marketing, branding, or graphic design• Working knowledge of academic research methods and processes• Applied usage of online instruction and research tools and systems• Experience working in public services• Experience using social media• Experience working in team environmentsPreferred:• 4 years’ experience working in libraries or instruction• Licenses and/or certifications in Social Media, Online Learning, Instructional Technology, Coding or any certifications applicable to main job functions• Knowledge: Advanced graphic design or social media marketing; Experience working in an academic library or department• Skills: Adobe Creative Suite or similar products; Social media account management tools; Using learning management systems like Canvas or Blackboard in a learning environment; Learning object design such as tutorials and videos• Abilities: Media campaign management; Teaching based on learning outcomes• Experience working in academic library outreach & instruction or library public services• Use of Canvas instruction management system as instructor• Design and use of online learning objects, tutorials, etc.• Management of outreach and marketing newsletters, initiatives, or campaignsApplication Procedures:A background check is required prior to hiring.
