Position Focus: \u2022 Searches for and retrieves materials from various locations within the Sterling Memorial and Bass Library general collections. \u2022 Prepares retrieved materials for transfer to the Library Shelving Facility, according to a variety of processes, including duplication of barcodes and sorting by language. Routes materials to appropriate locations for processing. \u2022 Uses bibliographic information to search the Voyager database for existing records. Creates item records for monographic and serial volumes, according to established procedures and guidelines. Identifies record discrepancies and refers as appropriate for correction. \u2022 Generates, trims and affixes call number and other labels, using an automated labeling system. \u2022 Shifts, sorts and shelves materials in the Sterling Memorial and Bass Library general collections. \u2022 Assists patrons with locating items in general collection areas. \u2022 Identifies materials in need of preservation attention and refers appropriately according to established workflows. \u2022 Uses shrink-wrapping equipment to wrap poor condition items prior to transport. \u2022 Records work productivity statistics. \u2022 May be required to assist with disaster recovery operations. \u2022 May be assigned to work at other University locations. Essential Duties 1. Charges, discharges and renews library materials. 2. Processes and maintains related records. Collects fines. Recalls overdue books. 3. Prepares bills and bursary reports. May assign, renew or cancel library privileges. 4. Receives, sorts, and records the receipt of serials and monographs. Adds issues. Maintains and updates holding records. Verifies the receipt of material. Claims missing issues. 5. Uses computer terminal to input and retrieve bibliographic data. Maintains catalog card files. Identifies and corrects discrepancies. Sorts and files material in alphabetical; or chronological; order. Maintains related records. 6. Formats and keyboards correspondence, forms, form letters, reports and other material. 7. Provides information on library services and procedural matters to patrons and staff. 8. Assists in locating materials. May bind books and repair bindings. 9. May instruct or provide work direction. Performs clerical functions incidental to library activities. Required Education and Experience One year of related work experience and a high school level education; or an equivalent combination of experience and education. Required Skill\/Ability 1: Demonstrated ability to interact and communicate tactfully and effectively with a diverse population. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment where team members have some individual and some cooperative responsibilities. Required Skill\/Ability 2: Demonstrated ability to effectively complete tasks in a busy public services setting, with accuracy and attention to detail despite frequent interruptions. Required Skill\/Ability 3: References must indicate reliable attendance, punctuality, self-motivation, and diligent performance. Required Skill\/Ability 4: Demonstrated proficiency in using Integrated Library Systems (e.g., Voyager), email, Internet browsers and multiple Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel). Preferred Education, Experience and Skills: Demonstrated proficiency in using the Voyager Circulation and\/or Cataloging modules. Physical Requirements Ability to push book trucks, carry heavy volumes, reach high shelves, climb ladders, work in locations with dust, and stand or sit for long periods of time.
