Support the attorneys and legal assistants of a nationally ranked Intellectual Property firm with all research requests. The Legal Research Specialist must quickly evaluate research inquiries to determine the best method and resources to complete the task. Work will include, but not be limited to: high-end legal and non-legal research on U.S. and foreign-based companies, research on legal matters, and other administrative, research duties, and projects as assigned. Interaction with attorneys, staff, business development, and executive professionals.
Duties and Responsibilities:
: Act as point of contact for research inquiries for both attorney and staff members while providing high level customer and client service via phone, in-person, and email
: Perform extensive high-end research on U.S. companies, foreign-based companies, website-based companies, corporate structure, IP litigation history, IP asset history
: Perform high-end background information gathering on expert witnesses, judges (all courts including PTAB), inventors
: Publication research and retrieval on expert witnesses, listed patent cited art, etc.
: Initiate and monitor alerts from various databases and provide client development research support
: Assist with literature searches for attorney presentations and written articles
: Answer questions from attorneys and staff and escalate when necessary
: Conduct in-depth research on legal and non-legal requests using appropriate online and print materials
: Keep abreast of developments in research and information science

Skills and Educational Requirements:
: Bachelor's degree required
: Masters degree in library or information science strongly preferred
: 3 years minimum experience in a law firm or corporate research environment
: Strong attention to detail and organizational skills required
: Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word and Outlook) required
: Well-versed in online research tools including, but not limited to: LexisNexis, Westlaw, Bloomberg Law, IP publications
: Exhibits exemplary understanding of USPTO processes to research and monitor development in areas affecting the Firm clients
: Excellent business correspondence, grammar, and proofreading skills required
: Must possess the ability to quickly learn, retain, and utilize new skills
: Efficient and effective communication skills to be used at all levels
: Ability to conduct oneself professionally at all times and to handle matters with high level of confidentiality
: Must be able to work independently and know when to escalate matters
