Responsible for leading the collaborative development, promotion, delivery
and evaluation of flexible, diverse, and user-centered learning tools to
support information literacy and related learning outcomes. Develop and
conduct needs assessments and usability studies for instructional tools.
Provide specialized information and research assistance, subject-specific
library instruction, and develop appropriate library collections and
content. Provide general research assistance as scheduled.
*Position/Job Responsibilities *
1. Lead library instructional initiatives to incorporate emerging
pedagogies, best practices in information literacy, universal design, and
the scholarship of teaching and learning (SOTL) via development, training
and consultation. Identify, evaluate, and implement current and emerging
educational technologies. Create media content to support the instructional
goals of the library. Participate in the library’s collaboration with
Information Technology Services to develop effective learning experiences
and enhance library services and resources delivered via the Course
Management System and other online platforms.
2. Serve as the library liaison to the Psychology, Politics, and Sociology
departments, promoting Library services and resources that support and are
aligned with disciplinary work in the departments. Establish and maintain
communications to keep faculty apprised of new acquisitions, library
procedures, and solicit opinions on resources to be considered for addition
to the collection.
3. Design, manage, deliver, and assess course-integrated instruction
sessions linked to curricular learning outcomes. Develop materials and
assignments based on best practices, including active learning or
problem-based learning activities, for teaching information literacy and

for the library collection in assigned subject areas. Monitor expenditures
of funds budgeted for content development in assigned disciplines and
ensure the timely expenditure of these funds within the fiscal year.
5. Undertake the investigation into, design of, experimentation with,
and delivery of learning objects, tutorials, materials, and tools that
utilize emerging technologies or innovative pedagogical approaches to
teaching information literacy.
6. Maintain knowledge of emerging trends, best practices, and pedagogical
principles in instructional design and information literacy, including but
not limited to the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy for Higher

10. Participate in various library and College teams, groups, and
committees, as well as in the activities of professional associations
and/or community groups related to librarianship. Assist with special
projects as assigned.
*Position/Job Qualifications *
A Master’s Degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited school;
demonstrated knowledge of information processes and resources; coursework
or professional experience with instructional design, learning theory,
and/or the scholarship of teaching and learning; technical proficiency with
web productivity tools; experience with digital media technology; ability
to deliver user-centered information services; strong public service
orientation; strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability
to effectively work and interact respectfully within a diverse and
inclusive environment; experience in preparation, delivery, and evaluation
of effective library instruction; and ability to deal positively,
collegially, and proactively within a changing environment; understanding
of, and the ability to conduct research in the Social Sciences and general
information science; and experience with the analysis of user needs and the
ability to work effectively both in a team environment and independently
required. Experience with Social Science reference and information literacy
initiatives in an academic or special library, and relevant undergraduate
or graduate coursework preferred.
