Montgomery McCracken Walker & Rhoads LLP has an opportunity for a Research and Electronic Content Librarian in the Philadelphia Office.

Job Description

This employee performs a wide range of duties to support the firm’s practice by providing high-level research expertise to support attorneys, legal staff, and administrators firm-wide.

Responsibilities include managing the library’s integrated system, maintaining intranet pages, setting up alerts, and assisting with the maintenance and operation of other library databases.

Specific Job Duties

Research & Business Intelligence

Perform all levels of legal and non-legal research

Provide summary reports and analysis of research when appropriate

Obtain information and court documents from sources that are not included in our collection using a variety of libraries, vendors, and information networks

Provide advice and instruction on research strategies, sources, and methods

Assist with business development projects by conducting industry and business research, compiling company profiles, and locating relevant data

Manage new and on-going current awareness services such as court litigant and news alerts using a variety of tools

Perform due diligence research for new client intake using public records, company financial profiles, and other sources

Manage Electronic Resources

Maintain the integrated library system and research intranet portal

Provide troubleshooting support and password management for research databases

Assist with product upgrades of research related systems; provide testing and ongoing support

Participate in enhancing research and firm technologies

Assist with serials check-in, collection maintenance, and routing as needed

Training

Assist with the training of attorneys and staff on research strategies and the effective use of research tools

Conduct research orientations and other training as needed

Promote the capabilities and content of resources using a variety of communication methods

Participate in vendor training programs to enhance expertise and stay current on new enhancements

Miscellaneous job duties

Assist with projects as needed

Minimum Educational Requirements

Master’s Degree in Library/Information Science

Required Skills and Abilities

A minimum of 2 years’ experience conducting research in the legal industry

Thorough knowledge of research methodology for print and online resources for legal and non-legal research sources; advanced proficiency with major legal research tools

Strong critical thinking and analytical skills, including the ability to analyze, evaluate, and synthesize information from a variety of sources

Experience using  integrated library systems and content management tools

Understanding of Knowledge Management methodology and principles

Familiarity with software and other technology used for communication, research and training

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment

Strong customer service orientation and a positive, team-oriented attitude

Works well independently and as part of a team

Experience with Microsoft Office including, but not limited to, Microsoft Excel

Must have strong attention to detail

Work Environment

Frequent exposure to high pressure situations

Must be able to prioritize tasks and successfully multi-task

Overtime work may be occasionally required
