Nature of Work/Essential Functions
Work Schedule:
Monday: 11;00 am-5:00 pm
Wednesday: 3:00 pm-8:00 pm
Friday: 9:00 am-2:00 pm
Sunday: 2:00 pm-6:00 pm
*Starting salary is dependent upon qualifications, but in most cases is no higher than the midpoint for range.
This person should be passionate about technology, learning, and bridging the digital divide.
This position is responsible for providing responsive and high quality technology-related instruction to adult patrons of the Evanston Public Library, in English and Spanish, both within the main Library and branches, and at partner organization locations throughout Evanston.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
(Specific assignment may include some or all of the following):
Provides instruction for adult patrons on technology skills, both individually and in classes, in both English and Spanish.
Works with the Adult Services Supervisory Librarian to develop and evaluate curriculum for technology training.
Explains and implements library policies and procedures.
Performs other duties as required or assigned.
Minimum Requirements
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS OF WORK
Must possess a high school diploma or GED. Some college is preferred.
Must possess one (1) or more years of teaching experience and/or technology instruction to individuals and groups.
Fluency in Spanish is required.
Must possess a valid driver’s license and a safe driving record.
Must be willing able to transport significant amounts of technology equipment weighing up to 50 pounds to different locations throughout the City.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities in the following areas:
Excellent customer service skills required.
High level knowledge of and experience with Microsoft and Apple computer systems.
Expertise with the Internet required, including browsers, web-based email systems, the principles of cloud computing and best practices for online safety and privacy.
Expertise with word processing, spreadsheet and desktop publishing software required.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
Ability to work independently, self-directed learning and time management required.
Expertise in digital media creation such as audio, images and video preferred.
Interest in “maker culture” preferred.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse group of patrons and staff throughout the Library, as well as outside the organization.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF WORK
The ability to work in a primarily sedentary position, with the ability to occasionally use force to exert up to 50 pounds. The ability to lift, carry or otherwise move objects, books, computer equipment, materials, etc. using up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
The employee is subject both to inside and outside environmental conditions including, but not limited to, all types of weather and temperatures.
There are no environmental hazards associated with this classification.

SUPERVISION
Work is performed under the supervision and guidance of the Supervisory Librarian. The individual collaborates with Community Engagement staff on instruction at partner organization locations. The individual has contact with other library agencies and staff at all levels, and uses the necessary resources to meet and achieve goals and/or objectives. Work is assigned through specific projects and customer/clientele request. The employee is responsible for prioritizing work tasks, and for identifying and utilizing the appropriate resources to resolve a problem or situation. Work performance is reviewed through observation, completion of projects, status reports, conferences and meetings. Guidance is provided through the City Code, departmental policies, City operating practices and procedures, and other resources as applicable to specific projects assigned. Work is evaluated at least annually, with respect to customer service, problem-solving ability and performance in accordance with this classification standard.
