Library Technician II for the Alcohol Research Group (
). This position is located in Emeryville, CA.
Under the supervision of the Research Program Administrator II (Manager of Administrative Support Services) and the
Library Committee, the
Library Technician II will be responsible for providing
library services, and supporting
researchers with literature searches/article retrievals and providing referencing/bibliography maintenance assistance.

Duties & Responsibilities
library services following established
library procedures under the administrative direction of the Manager of Administrative Support according to library policies set down by the Library Committee.
Maintains the on-line library circulation system; processes incoming journals/books, to include data entry into the library catalog, providing descriptive and subject cataloguing information using a classification system unique to
Communicates with staff about recent acquisitions, journal/book past due loans, and assesses staff library needs. Organizes training on use of Library catalog as needed.
Convenes library committee meetings to provide regular updates to the committee and to receive direction/guidance re library policies, needs and book & journal purchases.
Conducts electronic bibliographic searches of relevant external databases for
research staff and assists with bibliographic entries and management of in-house bibliographic and publication referencing software (currently using EndNote).
Assists scientists to comply with the
Public Access Policy in coordination with other
Orders and processes requests for materials such as books, reports, periodicals, serials, Inter-library loans, etc. Identifies reference materials; assists
staff with their retrieval.
Orders needed supplies and library books/ journals materials as specified by the Library committee. Reviews
publication list with Library committee to determine publications required.
Shelves/Reorganizes library books and journals as needed and facilitating access via the descriptive and subject catalog.
Accepts and performs other related job duties and responsibilities as required.
High School degree required. Degree in Management Information Systems, Library Studies or similar is highly desirable.
Two years library experience preferred; background in biomedical or social science fields a plus. Enrollment in
program is desired but not required.
Familiarity with cataloging library materials highly desirable.
Experience in performing bibliographic services in the health or related field preferred.
Knowledge of software tools for publishing and reference management desirable, preferably including familiarity with EndNote software.
Highly self-motivated individual with good analytical and communication/interpersonal skills.
Excellent ability to organize/prioritize work and work independently.
Ability to be meticulous, methodical and careful in entering references, cataloging, etc.
Prior project management experience desired.
Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office (Word and Access) desirable.
Ability to perform duties in a courteous friendly manner that fosters superior service.
This is a non-exempt position and the hourly wage is commensurate with experience.
