The position will also assist with growing campus interest in the visual arts and digital scholarship efforts, liaise with the Art & Art History, Classics or other humanities departments, and lead on the shaping of the College Library's visual collections. The RVA Librarian will help to organize the College Library's outreach and marketing program, sustain our growing instructional efforts, and work collaboratively across the College on collection development and liaison activities including research services, library instruction, and student-initiated research appointments. Responsibilities include, in conjunction with others: Assisting with staffing and providing research services, both in and out of the Research Services\/ILL Office Planning for the future of visual resources of all kinds within the College Library, with the Art & Art History department and the Phillips Museum Training for staff and students relating to visual resources and collections Managing, creating, and promoting visual collections Keeping abreast of trends in the creation, maintenance and migration of visual collections, with an emphasis on improving systems, equipment, procedures, preservation and access Documentation of best practices and standards, report and grant writing support, and creation of web content and outreach materials A successful candidate for the position will: Provide research services, library instruction and other assistance to faculty and students. Provide liaison services in support of the research and information needs of academic departments in Art & Art History and other assigned departments. Serve as an effective part of the library community through exploration, professional development and service. Actively contribute to the formulation of library-wide policies, procedures, goals and priorities, including present and future strategic planning efforts. Participate fully in ongoing change and development in the College Library, helping to determine best approaches to research services and visual collections. Have a strong commitment to public services, and their development and provision to our campus community. Possess a background in art or art history, experience with visual resources and collections, and a strong belief in the value of unique visual research materials to undergraduate, liberal arts education. Requirements: ALA- accredited master's degree in Library or Information Science is required. Coursework or experience in research services and visual collections is required. An undergraduate degree in art, art history and\/or a related discipline is preferred. A high degree of comfort learning new systems and processes is required. Experience with outreach\/marketing programs, or graphic design, is preferred. Previous experience in an academic library is preferred. The ability and willingness to provide excellent service and to work in a collegial manner with students, faculty and staff, and other constituencies is essential.
