Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. - Process new books and materials. - Re-shelves books. - Weeds book shelves. Repair books. Prepares books and materials for discard. - Assists students in locating source materials in the library. - Maintain audio-visual materials. Receives and distributes films and tapes. Follows up to ensure timely return. - Trouble shoots problems with audio-visual equipment. Calls for service as needed. - Checks books and other library materials in and out. Processes over dues. Collects and writes receipts for over-due items. - Monitors student behavior in the library. Maintains decorum. - Reads to students as assigned. - Answers questions and provides information concerning library services. - Assists students in the use of library resources including the use of the computer. - Types a variety of correspondence. - Compiles and types orders for magazines, records, tapes, and other library materials. JOB DESCRIPTION: SCHOOL LIBRARY TECHNICIAN - Receives and verifies orders. - Performs data entry and maintains databases. - Maintains library bulletin boards and displays. - Oversees work of student library helpers. Trains student workers and reviews work in progress. - Assists with the annual book fair and the accelerated reader reading incentive program. - Backs up computer and closes library for the day. Other Functions - Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit. MINIMUM QUALIFICATION EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: AA degree or High school diploma (or equivalent) and 72 college credits or High school diploma (or equivalent) and successful completion of an approved paraeducator assessment test Three years of clerical experience PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:: AA in Library Technology CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT: Criminal background clearance Valid Driver’s License KNOWLEDGE OF: Principles and practices of school library operations Microcomputers and related software General office procedures School board policies and procedures ABILITY TO: Maintain a clean and quiet library Perform general clerical duties Communicate effectively verbally and in writing Attend to detail and follow tasks through to completion Maintain effective working relationships with individuals and groups in a multicultural and diverse community Work collaboratively with school and central office administrators, parents, and community members Demonstrate understanding of and experience with cultural competence Operate a variety of modern office equipment including microcomputers and related software Operate general office equipment. Remain flexible to changes in assignments or situations.
