rnSalary: $20,392
rnFull-time position (with benefits)
rn Major Function:
rnOversees the management and operation of the school library and maintains a variety of instructional materials for teachers. Provide students with an enriched library environment and to aid them in acquiring the skills needed to take full advantage of library resources.
rn Performance Responsibilities:
rn Responsibilities to Students:
rn With direction from classroom teachers, provides individual and small group student instruction concerning library materials, as required from Common Core
rn Stimulates and guides students in the selection of books and other materials
rn Helps students to develop habits of independent reference work and to develop skill in the use of
rnreference materials
rn Promotes appropriate conduct of students using library facilities
rn Conducts story times and other reading activities.
rn Responsibilities to Teachers:
rn Assists teachers in the selection of books and other instructional materials
rn Informs teachers and other staff members concerning new materials the library acquires
rn Arranges for inter-library loan of materials of interest or use to teachers
rn Other Responsibilities:
rn Maintains Accelerated Reader & Library Cataloging software
rn Prepares creative displays, observes holidays appropriately, and maintains an inviting library atmosphere
rn Maintain, repair, and distribute audiovisual and other electronic equipment for the building
rn Plans and implements Library Fundraising events under the direction of the building Principal
rn Processes gifts to the library
rn Inventories all materials, repairing books and plastic covers, checking materials prior to putting new
rnacquisitions into circulation.
rn Processes notices of missing, damaged, or overdue books, media and materials for the purpose of
rnproviding and/or maintaining access to library resources and securing reimbursement for losses
rn Check library materials and resources in and out using computer database
rn Trains and supervises library volunteers and student assistants as needed.
rn Analyze, implement, and accurately manage all budgets to which the library has access.
rn Laminates materials for the entire school. Reorders laminate when necessary and charges for personal
rnlaminating jobs.
rn Participate as requested in staff meetings, IEP's, committees, parent meetings and special projects
rn Maintain and organize book, video, DVD circulation and keep periodical database updated
rn Maintain acceptable professional and personal qualities
rn Maintain confidentiality regarding all student affairs
rn Initiate and participate in building reading programs and campaigns
rn Other duties as assigned by the Principal
rnAll Instructional Assistants must meet one of the following standards to be considered highly qualified in the State of Michigan:
rn Completed two years of college (60 hours) OR
rn Obtained an Associate's Degree or higher OR
rn Meet a rigorous standard of quality and demonstrate, through passage of an approved formal state academic assessment in the following areas:
rnrn Knowledge of, and the ability to assist in, instructing reading, writing, and mathematics; or
rn Knowledge of, and the ability to assist in, instructing reading readiness, writing readiness, and mathematics readiness, as appropriate.
rnThe State Board of Education approved the following formal assessments by which a paraprofessional may choose to demonstrate this knowledge:
rnBasic Skills Examination A passing score on the Basic Skills Test MTTC
rn A passing score of at least 480 on the evidence-based reading and writing section of the SAT and 530 on the mathematics section in lieu of the Basic Skills Test or Professional Readiness Exam
rnETS Parapro Assessmentrn A passing score of 460 is required.
rnPreferred Qualifications: 2 years of experience including technical library skills, knowledge in classroom management and experience working with and supervising children
