Responsible for providing circulation service to library patrons. Also responsible for the communicating library policies and procedures as related to circulation services, performing clerical duties in support of library circulation, assisting with the maintenance of the patron database, as well as assisting with the handling library materials.
Essential Job Functions
Assist library patrons at the circulation desk, checking out and checking in library materials.
Create and edit patron account records.
Assist the public in person and on the phone.
Provide general Library information & general assistance.
Collect fines & fees and perform simple accounting duties.
Check in serials, handle minor mending, and replace barcodes.
Assist in locating materials on the shelves.
Assist in maintaining the order of collection.
Assist in returning library materials to the shelves.
Preferred Knowledge - Abilities & Skills
Up to 1 year advanced study or training beyond the high school level
1-2 years retail or office support experience
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Basic skills in PC and systems application
Good customer service and telephone etiquette skills
Good oral and written communications skills
Ability to multitask
Ability to adapt to various working environments
Ability to work independently and/or in a team environment
Ability to work under close supervision
Knowledge of library organization and cataloguing systems
Ability to organize materials according to alpha and numeric system

Licenses & Certifications Valid Class C Texas driver's license
Physical Tasks & Working ConditionsThe incumbent works in a typical library environment but some physical labor is required. Occasional outdoor work, and travel between city and library facilities may occur. Primary environment will be in a climate controlled, indoor atmosphere with some exposure to dust and occasional unpleasant conditions. Physical tasks include lifting, squatting, bending, stooping, walking, and carrying supplies, as needed, to accomplish the tasks of the activity on a daily basis. Must be able to reach materials at 90\u201d height shelving or shelving at floor level, lift/ carry up to 50 pounds infrequently, and push/pull 200 pound wheeled book cart. Must also be able to utilize keyboard and peripherals, handheld mobile devices, and multi-function office phones.

The Recycling Center, Transfer Station, and Hinton Landfill will be closed Monday, Dec. 25 and Monday, Jan. 1. Environmental Waste Services' offices will be closed on Tuesday, Dec. 26. Phase 6 Cart Delivery Schedule Yellow Week: Jan. 23 – 26 Blue Week: Jan. 30 – Feb. 2 Once your blue cart is delivered you may keep your red bin. If you would like to recycle your red bin place it in the blue container or drop it off at Garland’s Recycling Center, located at 1426 Commerce St. Please call 972-205-3500 or email EWS@GarlandTX.gov if you have any questions. Don't Go Tarpless! The operator of any vehicle arriving at the Hinton Landfill, wood recycling center, or Garland's transfer station which does not have a suitable cover placed over the vehicle's load, shall pay a surcharge of $20 per City of Garland Code of Ordinances, Chapter 52, Article II, Sec. 52.47(F). The transfer station and landfill sell tarps for $10 each, but covering and securing your load from the beginning of your trip will be more effective at preventing litter.
