Overall Job ObjectiveJob Title:LIBRARY ASSISTANT I - Range 7 / AMEAClosing Date/Time:Mon. 02/12/18 5:00 PM Alaska Time Salary:$14.26 - $18.17 Hourly$570.40 - $726.80 Weekly$2,471.73 - $3,149.47 Monthly$29,660.80 - $37,793.60 Annually Job Type:Regular / Part TimeLocation:Chugiak-Eagle River Library, Eagle River, AlaskaDepartment:Library Open to the general public and any current Municipal employee.This position is represented by the Anchorage Municipal Employee Association (AMEA) and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the AMEA. If the person selected is not affiliated with the Anchorage Municipal Employees Association, he or she must become a member in good standing within thirty-one (31) days of beginning work.DEPARTMENT: LibraryLOCATION OF WORK: Chugiak - Eagle River Library, Eagle River Town Center, 12001 Business Boulevard Suite 176, Eagle River, Alaska 99577HOURS OF WORK:  Hours vary; Tuesday - Saturday 9:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.Position is Regular, Part-time (18 hours per week) Example of Duties:Sort and shelve all types of library materials, including books, magazines, newspapers, DVDs, and multiple formats of sound recording materials. Shelf-read collection and maintain correct order on the shelves using basic alpha-numeric classification schemes. Put shelving carts in order. Push/pull fully loaded book carts. Check-in and sort returned library materials using library's online system. Empty book drops. Using the library's online system, perform customer service tasks including the charging, discharging and renewing of library materials, registering patrons for library cards and placing requests for materials. Cash management duties include accepting fines and fees and operating a cash register. Performs other related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences:High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and six (6) months of customer service experience (volunteer or paid).  Additional Important Information:Preference will be given to Anchorage Municipal Employees Association (AMEA) employees. AMEA employees who are successful in the screening process will be forwarded to the department for consideration prior to any non-AMEA applicants.The Municipality Of Anchorage participates in the U.S. Department of Homeland Security E-verify Program. For more information, please go to E-Verify® is a registered trademark of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. If selected for hire, the appointment in this position will be conditional based upon a satisfactory Municipal Employment Office conducted Background Check. A Background Check encompasses criminal history, verifying education, and verifying dates of employment.If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon satisfactory completion of a national criminal background investigation (AS 12.62.160) and (AS 12.62.400). Accordingly it will be necessary for the selected applicant to provide certain identification information and be fingerprinted. Fingerprint cards must be dated within 30 days from date requested. The processing fee of $47.00 plus the cost of being fingerprinted (variable) is the responsibility of the selected applicant and must be accomplished before beginning work.All required certifications and licenses must remain current for the duration of employment.Veterans:Veterans who wish to be considered for interview preference as allowed in the Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D must attach a copy of their DD Form 214 to the application. The DD Form 214 must show an honorable discharge. Minimum Qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.The Municipality of Anchorage is an Employer of National Service.
