Overview The Library Page is responsible for shelving materials and keeping the shelves and library neat. Assists at the circulation desk, including emptying book drop bins and checking in library materials. Separates returned library materials by general type; checks the condition of materials for repair. Collates materials prior to shelving and shelves them according to library procedures. Scans shelves for correct placement of materials.\u00a0 REQUIRED SHIFTS: Mondays from 10 am - 2 pm, Wednesdays from 10 am - 2 pm, Fridays from 12 noon - 4 pm, AND 3 weekend shifts per month which will be determined upon hire. Checks materials in and processes items in hold Other Duties and Responsibilities: Work may involve performance of various routines, which assist in the general housekeeping chores of the library. Work follows established practices and procedures and is subject to close supervision. Straightens library shelves, organizes newspapers and periodicals, and helps with library closing procedures. Assists librarians with special projects. Performs related work as required. Other Requirements: Successful candidates must, as a condition of employment, pass the pre-offer and post-offer hire process which includes a skills test, interview, reference checks and background checks. General Qualifications Must be at least sixteen (16) years of age and have completed two years of high school. Prefer experience working in a Public Library. Physical Requirements: Continuous use of hands to lift, pull out and shelf books. This position includes climbing on step stools to reach 8 foot high shelves and bending on hands and knees to shelve lower level library materials. This position involves long periods of standing to collate materials to place on shelving carts. This position also requires heavy pushing and pulling of library carts weighing up to 100 pounds, lifting on a regular basis, bending, reaching, stooping, and moving of books and other library related materials. Equipment used for this position includes but is not limited to: books, carts, stools, and copy machines. Work Environment: Work is performed inside the Library. The working conditions are of a public library environment and the noise level in the environment is usually low to moderate. \u00a0 Supplemental Information Knowledge of basic library procedures, methods and techniques, skill in filing numerically and alphabetically.
