Profile

The Library Technician is\r
responsible for the delivery of patron services and information assistance,\r
assuming responsibility for the library facility during weekdays, evenings, and\r
weekends and at other times in the absence of library management. The Library\r
Technician actively troubleshoots technology and hardware problems, supervises\r
student staff in the absence of department supervisors, uses electronic and\r
print scholarly resources to provide an intermediate level of information\r
services (in consultation with research librarians as necessary), and\r
contributes to service desk, resource sharing, course reserves, stacks\r
maintenance, and scanning.

Duties and Responsibilities: (include but are not limited to)

Essential Duties:

Provides excellent customer service from the Access\r
Services desk. Circulates library materials and equipment using the library\r
management system and resource sharing systems.

Answers directional, informational, and basic reference\r
questions, and refers reference and other queries to librarians as appropriate.

Interprets and enforces library policies in both routine\r
and difficult situations, and refers patrons to other library staff when\r
necessary.

Regulates access to the library and ensures that the\r
building is secure and that departmental opening and closing routines are\r
followed.

Assists with training and oversight of student assistants\r
and Circulation Associates.

Uses online systems, desktop applications, and hardware in\r
the provision of information services, request processing, collection support,\r
and to assist users.

Provides a first line of technical support for patrons,\r
including software support and troubleshooting for computers, printers, and\r
other equipment.

Cross trains in other library departments such as Archives\r
and Digital Initiatives, Special Collections, Reference, and Technical\r
Services.

Responsibilities:

Participates in stack maintenance activities including\r
shelving, shelf reading, cleaning, and shifting of all library materials.

Uses internal forms, resource sharing management systems,\r
and scanning equipment to process requests from patrons and other libraries.\r
Uses shipping software to process and package shared materials.

Performs additional duties and assists with special\r
projects as assigned.

Qualifications

Required:

\r
\r
High\r
school diploma or equivalent required. Two or more years in a library service\r
or comparable public service environment.

Strong\r
customer service skills, including the ability to conduct complex service\r
interactions in a courteous and consistent manner.

Operating\r
knowledge of computer and printer equipment, photocopier, etc.

Basic\r
typing and word processing skills.

Good\r
organizational skills and attention to detail.

Knowledge\r
of and commitment to the mission of La Salle University.

Preferred:

Associates\r
degree or higher preferred.

Ability to train and\r
supervise students in the provision of general library services.
