Description:   \r

Under the direction of the Library Director, supervises and performs library services, reference duties, manages evening and weekend operations and is responsible for public service functions including interlibrary loan.\r
\r
Essential Functions:  (with or without reasonable accommodation)\r
\r
1.     In cooperation with Librarian II (Computer\/Reference Services) provides and supervises reference assistance using print and electronic resources, remote online and WWW resources.\r
\r
2.     Supervises general library operations on evenings and weekends.\r
\r
3.     Advises and assists library patrons in the selection of books, periodicals, and other materials.\r
\r
4.     Responsible for the vertical file for local information, including marking magazine and newspaper articles for clipping and filing loose-leaf materials.\r
\r
5.     Performs circulation desk functions including checking books in and out, issuing library cards, collecting fines, issuing overdue notices and bills, answering phones and supervising patron activity in library.\r
\r
6.     Responsible for recording and maintaining evening and weekend cash reports.\r
\r
7.     Responsible for the schedule of evening and weekend staff.\r
\r
8.     Supervises evening and weekend circulation clerks and volunteer coordination.\r
\r
9.     Participates in special projects and other department activities as requested by the Library Director.\r
\r
10.  Addresses citizen concerns on evenings and weekends.\r
\r
11.   Plans and manages the work of the interlibrary loans, including locating and ordering of materials, retrieval and return of materials, and interlibrary loan billing.\r
\r
12.  Assists in keeping Library neat and orderly, including such tasks as pushing up books, ensuring that books are at end of shelves and picking up trash.\r
\r
13.  Attends conferences and meetings to stimulate interest in the use of the library and to acquire additional professional knowledge.\r
\r
14.  Responsible for making recommendations on materials acquisitions.\r
\r
15.  Assists library patrons with tax form selection.\r
\r
16.  Assists other staff when needed or as directed.\r
\r
17.  Performs other duties as directed or as the situation dictates.\r
\r
18.  Responsible for planning, managing, execution and evaluation of programming for adults.\r
\r
19.  Responsible for opening and closing the library.\r
\r

·                     Work is performed mostly in office settings.   Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate computers and various pieces of office equipment.\r
\r
·                     While performing the duties of this job, the employee is at various times asked to stand and sit; walk; use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls and reach with hands and arms.  The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk and hear.\r
\r
·                     The employee must occasionally lift and\/or move or push up to 50 pounds.  Specific as-corrected vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.  Must be able to hear and understand voices at normal conversational levels.\r
\r
Note:      A drug screening test will follow all conditional offers of employment.\r

Education, Training, License, Certification and Experience:\r
\r
1.     Graduation from a recognized college or university is required with library experience of at least three (3) years.  Degree in Library Science or related field is preferred.  Master’s degree is also preferred.\r
\r
2.     Supervisory experience is preferred.\r
\r
3.     Must possess Nebraska Library Certification within three years of start date.   \r
\r
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:\r
\r
1.     Thorough user knowledge and basic technological knowledge of electronic information sources and services, including OCLC, databases and www resources.\r
\r
2.     Ability to be flexible and to accept, manage and adapt to change.\r
\r
3.     Knowledge and understanding of standard library procedures, methods, principals and materials.\r
\r
4.     Knowledge of library reference & research material\r
\r
5.     Knowledge of reader interest levels, books, and authors.\r
\r
6.     Ability to perform interlibrary loan duties.  (Experience is preferred).\r
\r
7.     Ability to use standard bibliographic tools to verify needed materials and obtain locations.\r
\r
8.     Ability to conduct reference interviews to analyze requests and locate information.\r
\r
9.     Ability to operate a computer and keyboard and to view a computer screen to access the library catalog files.\r
\r
10.  Ability to view printed text on book bindings and to retrieve library materials.\r
\r
11.  Ability to stimulate the interest of readers in library resources.\r
\r
12.  Ability to supervise library staff and coordinate volunteers.\r
\r
13.  Must be detail oriented with excellent abilities to communicate both orally and in writing.\r
\r
14.  Ability to read, write, spell, alphabetize, and file.\r
\r
15.  Ability to operate library and office equipment such as FAX, photocopiers, scanner, calculator, computer terminal\/printer and laminator.\r
\r
16.  Ability to work a varying schedule, including evenings and weekends.\r
\r
17.  Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with City officials, fellow employees, members of the public and patrons.\r
\r
18.  Ability to maintain regular and dependable attendance on the job.\r
\r
19.  Maintains positive work atmosphere by communicating in a manner that promotes customer service with patrons, clients, supervisors, and co-workers.\r
\r
20.  Ability to open and close the library.
