\r\rJOB SUMMARY\r\rThe Miller Motte Librarian is responsible for providing library, reference and support services to students and faculty. He/She manages operations for the library, including selecting and recommending materials for acquisition. The Librarian provides access to library holdings and provides reference service to Faculty, Staff and Students. The Librarian acts as an instructional partner working with instructors and students to promote effective use of the library. Additionally, he/she supervises Library Assistants. \r\r\r\rESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS\r\rI. Oversees Library Operations \r• Oversees daily operations of the library, ensuring compliance with organizational directives, state and federal laws, policy, and regulations \r• Controls circulation of library materials and equipment to students and faculty ensuring adequate access. \r• Assists with the operation of the library's automated circulation system and circulation desk operations. \r• Catalogs and processes library materials. \r• Conducts library statistical reporting. \r• Provides reference services for the faculty and students. \r• Trains and supervises student and temporary workers in circulation desk operations \r\rII. Promotes Library Services \r• Provides library orientation and instruction in library skills for the faculty and students as needed. \r• Establishes and maintains library committee to serve as liaison between faculty, staff and students. \r• Promotes positive public relations such that students have access to an array of local media service sources. \r• Provides information on additional community resources to broaden the student's information base. \r• Collaborates with instructors to integrate library usage with class work. \r• Provides face-to-face, e-mail, and on-line reference service for students, faculty and staff. \r• Provides bibliographic instruction. \r• Assists with public relations, prepares posters, exhibits and handouts. \r\rIII. Manages and Maintains Library Collection \r• Manages inter-library loan activity. \r• Collaborates with the Advisory Committee and the Faculty to guide collection development. \r• Makes recommendations for collection development. \r• Reviews, evaluates, and selects material for library collection development; serves as a liaison to faculty on books to have available \r• Screens media service holdings to determine currency of the appropriate material and sort dated material. \r• Ensures that magazine, journal, and other periodical subscriptions are appropriate to the programs of study and are renewed in a timely manner \r• Maintains reference section that is current and meets the needs of all academic programs \r\rIV. Follows Compliance Policy and Procedure \r• Complies with all State, Department of Education and accreditation regulations \r• Adheres to all company policies and procedures \r\rKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities: \r\r Knowledge of reference instruction, data base research, & testing statistics analyses and research \r Thorough knowledge of library functions \r Understands principles, practices, and techniques of administration, supervision, interviewing and training. \r Ability to develop a budget, including financial forecasting and preparation of necessary documents.\r Knowledge of and ability to use online databases, the internet and traditional print resources.\r Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously in a collaborative environment \r Excellent presentation skills and ability to present ideas effectively to individuals or groups in a formal setting. \r Ability to tailor presentations to suit the needs and characteristics of the audience \r Excellent organizational skills \r Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs and database programs (CampusVue preferred) \r Ability to develop and use collaborative relationships for the purpose of accomplishing work objectives; developing relationships with other individuals by listening, sharing ideas, and appreciating others' efforts. \r Ability to prioritize and quickly resolve issues. \r Ability to process multiple types of information, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, and/or make judgments about moving from one task to another based on their importance. \r Superior verbal and written communication skills \r\r\r\rPhysical Demands: \rThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Job Requirements
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: \r\r Bachelor’s Degree in Library Science or related field, or equivalent work experience \r 2 years of experience as a Librarian \r\r\r\rPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:\r\r Master’s Degree in Library Science or related field \r 3 or more years of experience in library management \r Experience as a librarian in an academic setting\r Working knowledge of federal/state government education regulations \r
