Galter Health Sciences Library & Learning Center seeks an innovative and energetic ontologist to create ontologies, implement semantic data-integration strategies, and develop ontology-guided tools in the context of library projects, including the recently awarded CTSA Program Center for Data to Health Coordinating Center (CD2H). Efforts include but are not limited to contributing to the Open Resource Identification Framework (OpenRIF) initiative, through which the appointee will work collaboratively with colleagues and the community to develop attribution/credit data models and a comprehensive research output ontology. Other duties include authoring of publications, teaching and educational activities, contributions to grants and funding applications, and collaborations with the community-wide efforts aimed at promoting open, integrated, and rigorous practices in research and scholarly communication. We are looking for a highly motivated and interested individual with demonstrated expertise in informatics, ontology development, curation, and related technologies.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Collaboratively develops data models to represent research and clinically-related activities, concepts, roles, and contributions; investigate associations and drivers for these concepts in biomedicine; and develop relevant documentation.
Serves as a major contributor to community-based data model development efforts and collaborate with project members and stakeholders across geographically dispersed site.
Performs project outreach and engagement activities through presentations and workshops at national meetings and collaborations with community-wide efforts aimed at promoting open, integrated, and rigorous practices in biomedical research and scholarly communication.
Participates in academic conferences, authors publications with the team, and contributes to grants and funding applications.
Works creatively, collaboratively, and effectively to promote teamwork, diversity, and inclusiveness on project teams.
Master’s degree with major courses in relevant field or Bachelor's degree with major courses in field of research plus 3 additional years related experience.
experience developing ontologies and ontology-based data representations.
Knowledge of various related tools, libraries, and frameworks such as Protege, RDF, OWL API, SPARQL, SQL, APIs like Jena or Sesame, etc.
Experience with content modeling.
Java or Java compatible programming and/or Python and software development in general.
Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills (especially via web conferencing technology).
Effective instruction and presentation skills.
Broad knowledge of medical/scientific terminology.
A solid understanding of object oriented-languages and principles.
Excellent analytical, interpersonal, time management, organizational and problem-solving skills and the ability to perform research and make independent decisions about approaches and tools to reach specific goals.
Strong interpersonal communication skills.
Demonstrated expertise with virtual collaboration tools, including GSuite, Slack, Twitter, web conferencing tools (Skype, WebEx, BlueJeans, Zoom), cloud storage services (Box, Dropbox,
Google Drive), and Git/GitHub.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multicultural environment with a diverse population of faculty/staff, students, and colleagues.
A Ph.D. in medical informatics, computer science, bioinformatics, ontology development or related fields;
5 years research experience (including research experience concurrent with academic study).
Demonstrated experience of work with triplestores and graph databases.
Demonstrated experience in bioinformatics and ontology development, including knowledge of biological ontologies and controlled vocabularies.
Experience with data quality processes and tools such as continuous integration.
Experience with Wikidata.
Strong programming and development skills.
Work experience in academic or research settings.
