Under the direction of the Administrator assigned to the Library, and in coordination with the other faculty librarians, this position is responsible for the planning and development of library access and public services at the main campus, satellite centers, and for online programs.

Assignments may include day, evening and weekends at the Monterey campus, Marina Education Center, other sites in the community, as well as online services.Full time faculty have responsibilities outside the classroom through contributions to the department, division and the college which include curriculum development and evaluation, and participation in student achievement and success.

Faculty are expected to engage in campus life and become involved in college committees.EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:As a full-time faculty member in the Library Department, the successful candidate will also:

- Provide leadership and coordination of access and public services staff, functions, and policies, including reference, circulation, interlibrary loan, and reserves.

- Oversee reference services, including hiring, training, and scheduling reference faculty.

- Support and coordinate library communications and outreach, including social media, library events, workshops, and displays; coordinate with campus marketing resources; act as liaison with local libraries and the local community.

- Foster a student-centered, service-oriented learning environment.

- Develop and provide reference services at the main campus, satellite centers, and for online programs.

- Provide library instruction in a variety of modalities, including face-to-face and online, to a diverse population of patrons.

- Assess need and use data to make informed and student-centered decisions regarding library services.

- Promote and maintain an effective learning environment; participate in library redesign and repurposing of space, furniture, and technology.

- Provide outreach to academic divisions to ensure library collections are current and meet instructional needs.

Manage the acquisitions process for academic materials and access to archives and special collections.

- Participate in library planning and budgeting, focusing on appropriate recommendations for public services functions, including reference, circulation, interlibrary loan, and reserves.

- Evaluate student work using clear, objective criteria based on SLOs and learning objectives.

- Maintain and submit accurate records according to published deadlines (e.g., grades, syllabi, census reports).

- Develop and assess student learning outcomes of courses and programs; develops service area outcomes for library services; participate in program review processes.

- Engage in activities that enhance the departments rapport with area high schools, colleges, businesses.

- Participate in faculty recruitment.

- Hold required office hours and attend division meetings.

- Carry out collegial responsibilities including, but not limited to, institutional committee assignments, student recruitment and retention, and participation in participatory governance committees and campus life activities.

- Communicate and work cooperatively with colleagues, both within discipline and college- wide, on matters regarding course offerings, programs, and activities that enhance the development of the department and college.

- Seek and continue professional development, maintaining currency in the field through course work, conferences, workshops, and other appropriate means.

- Perform duties described in Board policies, the Faculty Handbook, the Monterey Peninsula College Teachers Association (MPCTA) Contract, and as assigned at the Monterey campus, the Education Center at Marina, and other designated locations.

Assignments may include online, day, evening, and weekend assignments at all locations where courses are offered by Monterey Peninsula Community College District.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

- Masters in library science, or library and information science;

- OR the equivalent.

- A sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college studentsNote: Graduate students currently working on a Masters degree are encouraged to apply, with the understanding that the degree must be completed and confirmed by July 1, 2018.DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

- Knowledge of and commitment to community college teaching.

- Demonstrated service-oriented attitude.

- Effective communication skills and ability to resolve conflict.

- Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills

- Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment.

- Ability to work effectively with students who have a wide range of skills, motivation, and academic or vocational goals.

- Knowledge of current and emerging technologies in reference, instruction, and for promoting library services.

- Three years of professional experience in an academic library or relevant, comparable environment.

- Experience using and/or managing circulation, interlibrary loan, and/or reserves modules of an Integrated Library System.

- Demonstrated ability to coordinate public outreach, marketing, and library events, workshops, and displays

- Demonstrated ability to teach information literacy skills, in person and online.

- Demonstrated ability to assess need and recommend services based on results.

- Member of professional library or related technology groups or organizations.

- American Library Association accredited Masters degreeWORK SCHEDULE / SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION:Anticipated Starting CompensationInitial salary placement is based on the current full-time salary schedule and on verification of education and experience.

Starting salary is $54,118 $73,386 annually.

In addition to the base salary, the successful candidate can also earn an annual Doctoral stipend of $2,968 or an annual multiple Masters stipend of $2,104.BenefitsMonterey Peninsula College provides an excellent fringe benefits package, including premium medical and dental coverage for employees and dependents, and a vision plan, life insurance and long term disability benefits for the employee only.

Monterey Peninsula College contributes to the State Teachers Retirement System.

Participation in tax deferred plans is available.Assignment & Anticipated Start DateThe assigned work year is 175.5 days per academic year.

The assignment will include 15 teaching load units (TLUs) plus five office hours per week.

The selected candidate will participate in campus wide events beginning the week of August 13, 2018.
