Job Description:

Job Summary:

The Access Services Coordinator is responsible for the circulation, course reserves, Scan & Deliver, and interlibrary loan functions for the SSA Library. In addition, this position hires, trains, supervises, and schedules the student employees. The Access Services Coordinator opens the library and provides assistance to users. Other duties include office supply ordering; assisting the SSA Librarian with shifting and weeding the SSA Library collections; and answering patron inquiries.


Patron Service, Course Reserves, and Document Delivery

Manages SSA Document Delivery requests.

Oversees the processing of SSA course reserves, which includes the following: a solid understanding of copyright guidelines and good communication skills for working directly with SSA faculty and staff.

Answers patron inquiries on library policies, procedures, and holdings; refers complex reference questions to the Librarian.

Oversees circulation, return, and shelving of all SSA collections, including course, permanent, and Ph.D. reserve collections.

Works with the Library s Acquisition department to purchase materials needed for course reserves.

Works closely with SSA departments, including the Production Room, IT Services, Special Events, and Dean of Students office.

Serves as the liaison to the Library s systems department and other Library units.

Works with the SSA Librarian to gather library and collection usage statistics.

Hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates student staff. Also serves as primary time approver for student staff.

Serves on Access Committee.

Oversees maintaining library materials and supplies.

Special Projects

Assists Librarian with the shifting and weeding of collections as needed.

Assists Librarian with compiling New SSA Acquisitions list and various other projects alerting the SSA community to new library titles.

Ability to learn, understand, and communicate copyright guidelines relating to course reserves required.

Demonstrated ability to independently manage time, prioritize work, and manage multiple tasks to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment required.

Ability to explain and uphold library policy consistently required.

Demonstrated ability to exercise good judgment, stay poised under pressure, and interact with faculty, students, staff, and others with patience, discretion, fairness, and courtesy required.

Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills required.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required.

Ability to work independently without constant supervision required.

Ability to maintain a reliable schedule required.

Additional Information: Education:

High School Diploma or equivalent required.

Bachelor s degree preferred.


Previous library experience, or an equivalent combination of position-related education and experience, required.

Significant customer service experience in a library, retail, or similar environment required.

Previous experience overseeing the work of others required.

Technical Knowledge and Skills:

Demonstrated strong proficiency with standard computer applications such as MS Office (including MS Outlook) required.

Previous web authoring experience preferred.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

Office environment.

Ability to hear, including making fine discriminations in sound.

Ability to see, including color, depth perception, or clarity.

Ability to sit for 2 hours to 4 hours.

Ability to stand for 4 hours or more.

Effective audio-visual discrimination and perception.

Ability to use computers extensively for 4 hours or more.

Ability to operate equipment necessary to perform job.

Ability to bend, crouch, or stoop.

Ability to carry or lifts loads of 50 to 99 lbs.

Pay Grade: $16.57 -$24.26
