Library Clerk 2, SG-9
$36,051 annual (NOTE: current salary or reconstructed salary for state employees in accordance with NYS Audit and Control.)
This position will require the ability to work with a variety of library users and staff, excellent customer service skills, and the ability to work as a team player.
Brief Description of Duties:
Provide basic information and general assistance to library patrons such as answering simple directional questions, assistance in locating library materials and using the on-line catalog. Refer patrons to librarians as appropriate.
Assisting at the circulation desk in a regular rotation and as a fill in for absent staff as required and requested by the Circulation Supervisor.
Provide evening and weekend supervision of student workers.
Provide specialized clerical support to circulation and reserve activities such as circulating library materials, collecting fines and searching lost materials.
Assist the public using equipment such as printers, scanners, fax machine and photocopiers.
Assist in other library projects such as pre-order searching and checking newly processed library materials and shelf arrangement.
Handle and lift library materials (books, book trucks, boxes of photocopy paper).
Technical Services-processing support may be required.
Searching online library management system tools and databases as needed for correct records and inputting information as required.
Updating bibliographic, copy and volume holdings and item records for monographs and serials in online library management system tools and databases as needed.
Creating item records for theses, creating and updating corresponding bibliographic, copy and volume holdings and item records in online library management system tools and databases for monographs and serials for all ESF library locations (Moon, Ranger School, AEC and Cranberry Lake).
Serials maintenance tasks, all of which are done in accordance with procedures (many supplied by the online library management system tools and databases system, others designed by library staff) and are expected to be done in an accurate, timely and professional manner
Assisting with other public services tasks as required such as inter-library loan and document delivery.
Other tasks at the direction of the Library Director.
Job Requirements:
Academic year evening and weekends, regular business hours during breaks and holidays. Work schedule when classes are in session generally is 3:00 p.m. - 11:30 p.m. Sunday - Thursday. Work hours during the summer and holiday breaks are 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Monday - Friday. Extensive paid training 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Monday - Friday for the first 2 to 4 weeks is preferred but flexible. Occasional weekend hours during breaks may be required.
Must be reachable on current Library Clerk 2, SG-9 list or currently hold the title of Library Clerk 2, SG-9 or a title from which transfer is appropriate.
Basic office computer knowledge.
Familiarity with library information systems.
Experience in an academic library.
