Description Coordinates and performs a variety of circulation duties on behalf of the Longview Public Library; provides customer service to the public; responds to circulation and\/or other types of library inquiries; updates and maintains patron account records; assists in maintaining library facilities, equipment, and collection materials; and performs other related duties as assigned. Examples of Duties Staffs the circulation desk and provides customer service to patrons in person and via telephone. Responds to various types of circulation and\/or other general library inquiries; communicates and explains the Library's policies and procedures to the public. Performs a variety of circulation duties; issues library cards; prepares TexShare cards; checks items in and out; renews materials; processes hold requests. Monitors and notifies patrons of missing\/damaged materials and\/or other account issues. Collects and receipts library fees\/fines; sells\/recharges print and copy cards; receives monies for Friends of the Library book sales; balances and maintains cash box. Contacts patrons by telephone regarding the availability of requested items and\/or returned mail. Inputs, updates, and maintains patron account information in the Library's computer system. Generates overdue notices and patron billing correspondence; places blocks on library cards as required; researches and assists in resolving patron records issues. Instructs patrons in the use of library computers, equipment, catalogs, and databases; coordinates and teaches public computer classes as assigned. Assists patrons with basic reference inquiries and\/or in locating library materials. Prepares items for shelving; places books and audiovisual items on display shelves; coordinates and performs shelf reading; identifies and recommends materials for purchase. Participates in cleaning and maintaining library facilities and equipment; empties book drops; performs opening and closing duties; delivers closing announcements; changes backup tapes. Participates in preparing newsletter articles; copies, folds, and maintains library brochures. Selects and prepares books for the Library's Books on Delivery Program as required. Provides circulation training to other library personnel as assigned. Performs other related duties as assigned or required. Minimum Requirements High School Diploma or equivalent, and two years circulation\/customer service experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License. Physical Demands\/Work Environment Work is performed in a public library environment. Subject to sitting, standing for extended periods of time, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting of objects up to 25 pounds. Must be able to push\/pull library carts and lift\/carry library materials.

The City of Longview operates with a Council-Manager form of government. The City Council is comprised of a Mayor, who is elected at large, and six Council Members, one elected from each district. The Council appoints the City Manager, City Attorney, Municipal Judge and City Secretary, who work with direction both from the City Council and City Manager. All other staff members work under the direction of the City Manager.
