The Position Librarians are typically assigned to the Nevada State Library, Archives and Public Records (NSLAPR) Division and perform a broad range of professional level duties in support of a library that organizes and provides access to a wide selection of materials in a variety of formats. Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.The Librarian 4 works within the Department of Administration's Nevada State Library, Archives and Public Records (NSLAPR), located in Carson City, NV. We welcome to our team a dynamic, knowledgeable leader for our service-oriented state library. The Senior Program Officer provides direction for all library services activities, including purchasing, licensing, facilitating access to licensed content, discovery services, cataloging of materials in all formats, and physical processing of materials. Library services are supported by the Polaris integrated library system. The Senior Program Officer provides leadership and vision for the Nevada State Library services including developing and implementing creative approaches to the work of the library. The position has the opportunity to shape the success of the state library through strategic planning, budget management, collection development, special collections, state and federal publications, digital library services and the Nevada Library Cooperative. Management of personnel is also an important part of the position, which currently consists of 4 librarians and 2 paraprofessionals. The Senior Program Officer will work collaboratively and advance ongoing working relationships with the administrator and staff, assistant administrator, planning and development staff, talking books staff, the Department of Administration's business office. The Senior Program Officer reports to the Assistant Administrator of Library Development and Library Services under the Administrator of the Nevada State Library, Archives and Public Records. The position is responsible for space planning support, analyzing space utilization, preparing special reports, coordinating furniture plans and moves. This position also works in collaboration with other state agencies, consultants and contractors. The Nevada State Library expends a roughly one million annual budget for materials and includes special and archival collections in a wide range of formats, housed in the Nevada State Library and Archives building. The position operates in an environment of active consortial engagement through the Nevada Library Cooperative and statewide resource sharing. The library's primary patrons are the 18,000 employees that serve the State of Nevada, vendors and service providers to state government, and partners in this enterprise. A Nevada driver's license or the ability to obtain a Nevada driver's license is required. To Qualify: In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements: Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Master's degree in a program accredited by the American Library Association and three years of professional library experience which included responsibility for a combination of at least four of the following: original cataloging\/metadata, reference, e-resources, social media, government publications, collection development, project management, budget preparation and administration, grant administration and\/or supervision of professional, technical or support staff; OR one year of experience as a Librarian III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation.
