Chief purpose of this position in support of above mission or goal

The successful candidate will work closely with faculty in assigned departments to advance scholarship and learning for the

VCU

community. They will teach course integrated sessions and workshops on important research concepts, provide in depth research consultation and services, contribute to collection decisions for specialized resources. Furthermore, they will build relationships with their departments to ensure library collections and research services are relevant for evolving scholarship and learning needs.

Position Responsibilities

Reporting to the Head of Academic Outreach, the Behavioral and Social Sciences Research Librarian will actively build and maintain relationships with faculty, students, and administrative units within the School of Education and Department of Psychology. The successful candidate will provide course-integrated instruction, workshops, individual consultations, and research assistance. The Behavioral and Social Sciences Research Librarian will actively pursue outreach opportunities to promote library services and advance research and learning for education and psychology faculty and students; and will ensure services are relevant to evolving behavioral and social sciences research demands by actively monitoring scholarship in the field and the curriculum and research interests of the faculty. Academic Outreach Librarians are expected to contribute beyond their subject area by providing collaborative and cross-disciplinary support for departmental and library-wide outreach activities. Required Qualifications

ALA

-accredited graduate degree or accredited graduate degree in another appropriate discipline. Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at

VCU

Preferred Qualifications

A degree in a social sciences related discipline. Experience teaching in a classroom setting or providing in depth research assistance. Familiarity with specialized sources and research methods for behavioral and social sciences. Ability to work collaboratively with faculty. Evidence of creativity, initiative, and flexibility when working independently and on teams. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
