Qualifications: A highly qualified candidate will be certified in MA as a K-12 school librarian, and will have completed a teacher preparation program and have a master’s degree in school library and information studies.Reports to: High school principal/assistant principal and library department headSupervises: Library paraprofessional, volunteers, and student assistantsEssential functions/responsibilities:- Creates a flexible environment that allows for inspiration, collaboration and hands-on problem solving- Empowers students to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, and skillful researchers as well as effective and ethical users of ideas and information- Collaborates with teachers to design, teach, and assess student-centered learning experiences that incorporate inquiry learning, information literacies, critical thinking and self-assessment- Contributes to the work of the district library team- Curates an up-to-date print and online collection that supports the curriculum and the instructional goals of the district- Evaluates, uses and promotes existing and emerging instructional technologies - Promotes the ethical use of information, including respect for copyright, fair use and licensing of intellectual property- Maintains library website and uses social media strategically to engage community members- Ensures that the library adapts and evolves as needed in order to remain a vital part of the school and a welcoming place for all community members

Job takes place in a high-performing school district with high expectations.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS- Requires sufficient vision to read printed documents and to view detail on a computer screen for extended periods.- Requires frequent standing, walking, sitting, bending, and reaching, as well as carrying and occasionally lifting up to 30 lbs. - Ability to speak in an understandable voice with sufficient volume to be heard in normal conversation, on the telephone, and in the classroom.- Ability to hear sounds clearly up to twenty feet.- Travel among buildings may be required.The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
