QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s DegreeExperience working with ChildrenLove of Literature and specific knowledge of children’s literatureAbility to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with children and adultsFamiliarity with computer operations and instructional technology resourcesESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Promotes a love of reading and lifelong learningProvides classroom management for classes using the libraryAssists students and staff in locating library materialsProcesses, catalogs, and circulates books and other print and non-print library materials, including mobile technology devicesMaintains and updates the collectionShelves booksManage and list the books for 6th grade students, with a developmental and culturally proficient lensEstablish a battle of the books at the end of the year. Support the project block learning curriculumCoordinate Book fairIntroduces basic library skills and usage, including research skills, using Google, etc.Coordinate Author visitsSupport a D.E.A.R. program for avid readers and non readersParticipates in professional developmentAdvocates for the Library through an effective public relations programAssist in the development and maintenance of the library collection, including the purchase, cataloguing, processing and inventory of materialsManages Room SchedulingCollaborates with fundraising efforts to support the library/media centerOther responsibilities as assigned by the principal or designeeTERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 183 Days, school yearREPORTS TO: Building PrincipalSALARY/BENEFITS: In accordance with other Library Paraprofessionals in the Arlington Public SchoolsArlington values diversity. All School District Employees must undergo a criminal background check - CORI and Fingerprinting. This position officially begins on August 29, 2018, which is the first official work day in the 2018-2019 school year. However, the Gibbs School is a new 6th grade school that will open in the 2018-2019 school year. Therefore, we would like the person who is appointed to the position to begin working per diem days starting in the summer.
