BridgeUP, is a College Prep Program, which builds a supportive network of students from underserved communities by developing cohorts of high school graduates who are prepared to thrive in a college and career setting. The College Prep Program has created a network of safe spaces that allow students to come together to develop their individual passions and creativity, while helping them succeed both academically and socially. With the success of each student, the program aims to bridge the opportunity divide, close the achievement gap, and transform lives.
Principal Responsibilities
Reporting to the HGB Education Fellow, the Lead Tutor will:

Manage and advise our college student Tutors, providing weekly check-ins to discuss any student or tutor related issues or concerns;
Collaborate with BridgeUp staff to develop and teach mini-lessons that enhance students\u2019 understanding of basic core concepts across disciplines;
Meet with the HGB Education Fellow to discuss student progress, resource needs, planning, etc.
Provide insight into academic needs of students and suggest strategies for addressing areas of student concern (i.e., learning, classroom behavior, etc.).
Develop positive relationships with students that foster their academic and personal growth.
Work one-on-one or in small groups with students to provide them with academic tutoring to improve their understanding of math, reading, social studies and/or science, at all levels.
Use best practices when tutoring students and managing classroom.
Monitor students and maintain a safe learning environment during program activities.
Attend required meetings and trainings.
Performs other duties assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor\u2019s Degree, Master\u2019s degree in Education preferred
Possess a concrete understanding of basic concepts in middle and high school Math, Science, Reading/Writing, History, and Foreign Language
Experience teaching and/or tutoring in multiple subject areas
Working knowledge of NYC Department of Education Common Core Learning Standards preferred
Experience with enhancing 21st Century Skills and Project Based Learning activities preferred
Experience in youth development
Ability to work well under pressure, meet deadlines, and wear many different hats.
Excellent communication skills
Interest in urban library services
Experience supervising others
Strong teamwork and collaboration skills
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Must pass a criminal background check and drug screening

Work Environment
Physical Duties
Starting SalaryUSD $18.00/Yr.
Minimum Salary (with 2 years of NYPL service)
Hours- Program Hours: Monday \u2013 Thursday, 3:00pm-7:00pm; Friday, 3:00pm-5:00pm - Lead Tutor Hours: Monday - Thursday, 2:30pm-6:30pm (43 weeks per year)
