Position Focus: Under the direction of the Director of E-Resources & Serials Management (ERSM), the Electronic Resources Access & Discovery Librarian focuses on establishing and maintaining online access to content licensed by Yale University Library (YUL). This position supervises a team of staff responsible for key discovery and cataloging workflows. Within a changing and flexible environment, s/he works closely with colleagues and vendors to ensure consistent access to library holdings across multiple platforms including the librarys catalog and article discovery services. Manages YULs troubleshooting service, focused on complex access problems. Works closely with other units within ERSM and partner departments to support and improve access to licensed electronic collections.

Manages access to licensed and open access electronic resources through key systems such as the knowledge base, link resolver, discovery service, and integrated library system; Recommends and implements improvements to existing tools and workflows. Supports access to e-resources via IP authentication, remote access through VPN, and other network and identity management controls. Provides e-resource expertise both internally to library staff and externally to vendors and the larger Yale community. Oversees departmental troubleshooting support, resolving access-related problems, responding to reported issues, and working with internal and external partners to fix issues in a timely manner. Stays abreast of emerging trends and best practices related to e-resources. Plays an active role in e-resource related projects and initiatives as assigned.

Essential Duties 1. Focus on establishing and maintaining strong intellectual control over content throughout the life cycle of electronic resources licensed by Yale University Library (YUL). 2. Supervise staff responsible for maintaining key e-resource systems and workflows. Participate in hiring, training, coaching and evaluating the work of staff members. 3. Work closely with staff across the Electronic Resources and Serials teams and with partner departments to ensure efficient acquisition and access to electronic resources for library users. Provide eresource expertise both internally to library staff and externally to vendors and the larger Yale community. 4. Participate in planning and implementing new services, and supporting and improving existing services. 5. Responsible for ensuring consistency in service quality, best practices, and procedures. 6. Contribute advanced knowledge to departmental troubleshooting support, resolving accessrelated problems, responding to reported issues, and working with internal and external partners to fix issues in a timely manner. 7. Stay abreast of emerging trends and best practices related to eresources. 8. Play an active role in eresource related projects and initiatives as assigned.

Required Education and Experience 1. Masters degree from an ALAaccredited library school. In selected instances, a postgraduate degree in a related discipline may be required or substituted for a masters degree in library science. 2. The ability to apply the principles that guide the organization of bibliographic information to the organization of electronic resources. 3. An understanding of the best practices for managing the records that track electronic purchases, subscriptions, and licenses. 4. Demonstrated ability working in an integrated library system. 5. Conceptual and practical knowledge of the technologies used to manage and access eresources. 6. Excellent oral and written communication skills; demonstrated analytical and organizational skills. Required Skill/Ability 1: A Masters degree from an ALAaccredited library school and a minimum of 2 years of professional experience is required for this position.

Required Skill/Ability 2: Ability to apply the principles that guide the organization of bibliographic information to the organization of electronic resources.

Required Skill/Ability 3: Demonstrated ability working in an integrated library system or knowledge base. Conceptual and practical knowledge of the technologies used to manage and access e-resources over time.

Required Skill/Ability 4: Familiarity with library acquisitions and licensing and how these impact access to electronic resources. An understanding of the best practices for managing the records that track electronic purchases, subscriptions, and licenses.

Required Skill/Ability 5: Excellent oral and written communication skills; demonstrated analytical and organizational skills. Demonstrated ability to work both independently and in a team environment.

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills: Demonstrated ability managing e-resources within an ILS, knowledge base, link resolver, and article discovery service. Familiarity with batch load procedures. Knowledge of e-resource licensing. Understanding of e-resource access issues. Demonstrated record designing projects and completing them in a timely manner. Demonstrated ability to effectively supervise, train and motivate staff.
