Library Assistant, Circulation –
Days/Evenings/Weekends (Per Diem)
The James E. Tobin Library is seeking experienced individuals to be available on an as-needed basis for special projects within the Patron Services department as well as filling in when current staff is absent (e.g., summer breaks, vacation, illness etc.). No set schedule is guaranteed and chosen candidates will be contacted as necessary to fill in during day, weekend or evening shifts. This position reports to the Associate Librarian – Head of Patron Services.
Retrieve interlibrary loan and reserve requests for patrons.
Assists as needed at the Patron Services desk checking materials in and out of the library and updating patron information
Responsible for maintaining library printers (e.g. toner, paper)
Sign for and unpack deliveries, verify packing slips and invoices against contents
Assist with shelf reading and deselecting projects; and associated steps to discarding materials
Other duties as assigned by the Associate Librarian Health Sciences, Head of Patron Services
Prior experience as a library assistant in an academic environment is required
Bachelor’s degree or higher. MLS from an American Library Association Accredited School (either earned or in progress) or equivalent work experience is highly desirable.
Able to work both independently and as part of a team
The candidate must be detail orientated, highly organized, and have a strong sense of customer service.
Proficient in the use of PCs, Microsoft Word and Excel; experience with Microsoft Access is highly desirable
Ability to troubleshoot printers/scanners (i.e. clear paper jams)
