POSITION SUMMARY

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES

Performs a variety of reference, reader's advisory and directional services. Aids other library staff in developing and implementing library programs and outreach services. Performs a variety of administrative and clerical duties to promote library programs and services. Operates under the supervision and direction of an assigned supervisor.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

The principal function of an employee in this class is to perform a variety of reference, reader's advisory and directional services. Assist patron service for reference activities and researching the library collection and resources. The nature of the work performed requires that an employee in this class establish and maintain effective working relationships with the assigned supervisors, other city and library employees, and the general public. The principal duties of this class are performed in a general library environment.

Performs reference, reader's advisory, interlibrary loan and directional services for customers in a timely manner.

Provides instruction to patrons in the use of library resources.

Prepares marketing materials about library programs and services, verbally and in writing.

Uses library equipment, technology and online resources as appropriate.

Keeps public spaces and shared work areas orderly.

Prepares and performs informational or educational programming for assigned age groups as requested.

Accepts and performs general duties of the department as assigned.

Education:

High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED): Required

Bachelor's Degree (four year college or technical school) Preferred, Field of Study: Education or related field

Experience:

4 plus years of experience in Library Operations

Or Any combination of experience and training which provides the equivalent scope of knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work

Computer Skills:

Ability to operate or quickly learn to operate a personal computer using standard or customized software applications appropriate to assigned tasks and the ability and willingness to quickly learn and put to use new skills and knowledge brought about by rapidly changing information and/or technology.
