Position Title: Library Operations Assistant (LOA)
Department: Libraries/ Science and Technology Commons
Supervisor: Director of the Souder Science and Technology Commons
Status: Full-time, 10 month position at 37.5 hours per week with benefits through August 2018-May 2019.
Wage: $11.82 to $11.97 an hour upon successful completion of 90-day introductory
Earlham College invites applications for a Library Operations Assistant (LOA) to work in the Science Technology Commons (STC) located in our new state-of-the art Center for Science and Technology (CST). This position is a 10-month hourly staff position that includes full benefits. The Library Operations Assistant will report to the Director of the Science Technology Commons. The LOA will work 20 weeks each semester, historically from August 5th - December 20th and January 5th to May 20th. For 2019-2020, the position is at a minimum of 20.0 hours per week with no benefits or possibly 37.5 hours per week with full benefits, to be determined.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- The LOA oversees the daily operations of the STC, including:
- Supervising student workers.
- Providing front-line academic poster printing services.
- Participating in campus-wide provision of library and technology services.
- Core responsibilities in STC include the following duties:
- Manages daily operations of STC
- Assist STC patrons with information needs about STC and CST
- Oversees circulation system in STC (e.g. Books, keys, Circulate adapters, cables, cameras, clickers, and other instructional technology equipment for teaching and research in collaboration with different science departments (e.g., calculators)
- Monitor appearance and working order of STC spaces/facilities.
- Interacts with other campus offices such as Housekeeping and Maintenance, external suppliers, vendors, and repair persons as needed.
- Reserve, checkout, support, and schedule laptop cart/mobile labs and our Fishgold and Collaborative Computer lab for science classes and individual patrons (faculty and students)
- Manage growing collection of AV equipment
- Provides large-scale academic poster services: by printing posters for patrons, billing for printing, ordering and maintaining supplies
- Troubleshoot and/or Coordinate technical responses for STC computing labs, laptops, and printers
- Organize and co-convene student luncheon meetings
- Train and supervise student workers in collaboration with the Director of STC
- Support Science Commons space reservation of key flexible commun
- Accounting: responsibilities, and clerical duties for the Science & Technology Commons
- Assist in the management of Concerto (digital display/signage system)
- Assist in the preparation and facilitation of student and faculty workshops
- Coordinate/collaborate with Lilly Library staff to troubleshoot library computer system and to accomplish joint library activities
- Performs all other duties as assigned, based on experience and skill set of the final candidate.
- Bachelors degree preferred but not required.
- Work experience in an educational or library setting is required.
- Excellent people skills and a desire to provide exceptional customer service
- Service-oriented personality and ability to interact with diverse populations of users and varied personalities.
- High level of integrity and ability to respect privacy of patrons.
- Ability to learn and follow detailed procedures.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office-related software such as word-processing, PowerPoint, and spreadsheet programs, and aptitude for acquiring additional computer skills.
- Facility and/or the ability to learn Web-based technologies and database software (preferred).
- Basic understanding (or the ability to learn quickly) about classroom technology such as projectors and audio equipment (preferred)
- Ability to train and supervise student employees and to create a supportive work atmosphere for the student workers.
- Effective organizational skills.
- Ability to attend to multiple tasks simultaneously and be on demand by library patrons at all times.
