Columbia University Libraries seeks an energetic, creative, and collaborative individual for the position of Public Services Archivist
. Reporting to the Curator of Drawings & Archives, the Public Services Archivist oversees all aspects of public services in the Avery Library’s department of Drawings & Archives whose holdings include more than 2.5 million architectural drawings and records of pre-eminent American architects, including the expansive Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation Archives. The incumbent is responsible for reference and reader services, collection security, vault storage paging and re-filing, reading room staffing and supervision. The incumbent supports Avery Drawings & Archives course-integrated instruction and public programming. The incumbent contributes to processing and re-housing archival/drawing collections including creation of EAD finding aids and collection-level MARC records.
The Avery Architectural & Fine Arts Library
is one of the most comprehensive architecture and fine arts library collections in the world. Avery collects a full range of primary and secondary sources for the advanced study of architecture, historic preservation, art history, decorative arts, city planning, real estate, and archaeology. The Library contains 650,000 volumes including more than 40,000 rare books, and receives approximately 1,000 periodicals. Avery’s Drawings and Archives collection includes architectural drawings and architectural records including a diverse range of original and reprographic drawings, photographic materials, project and building files, business papers, correspondence, diaries, scrapbooks, and personal papers.

****Qualifications (Required)
MLS, PhD or equivalent degree
Experience or advanced knowledge of architectural special collections
Knowledge of best practices for intellectual and physical control of archival collections
Experience providing patrons services in a special collections environment
Knowledge of MARC and DACS standards, and experience with EAD
Strong organizational and teamwork skills
Strong interpersonal, communication and analytical skills
Related experience working in a library or academic setting
Commitment to supporting and working in a diverse environment
Qualifications (Preferred)
Familiarity with Voyager ILS
Facility with technical platforms (Microsoft Office, Adobe Photoshop, social media applications, ArchivesSpace)
