A critical component of the NYPL\u2019s Out-Of-School Time (OST) Program is our Enrichment Zones Program which focuses on providing structured homework help to students in grades 1 through 8.  In addition to homework help, students use engaging educational software to supplement their skill-building, and will participate in enrichment activities that address the Common Core Learning Standard in math, literacy, science, and social studies through hands-on exploration and experimentation.
Tutors will work 7 or 14 hours per week, M-Th, during the program hours of 3-6PM with additional hours offered for professional development, meetings, and preparation.
Principal Responsibilities
The Enrichment Zones Tutor will work under the supervision of an Enrichment Zones Program Coordinator and will:

Work one on one or in small groups with students to provide them with academic tutoring to improve their understanding of math, reading, social studies and/or science, at all levels
Create and maintain reports of all tutoring sessions including details of the interaction, achievements, and concerns about the students performance
Attend periodic staff meetings for youth evaluation and information exchange among Tutors, Student Advocates, and supervisors
Assist with administering assessments and collaborate with staff to analyze scores
Create strategies to target areas of concern
Use best practices when tutoring students
Develop positive relationships with students that foster their academic and personal growth
May be assigned to work in other OST sites
Performs other duties assigned

Required Education & Experience

Current enrollment in an undergraduate degree program at an approved accredited educational institution or a Bachelor\u2019s degree; HS Diploma or equivalent required

Minimum Qualifications

Experience teaching and/or tutoring in multiple subject areas
Effective communication skills in dealing with children, parents, co-workers and supervisors
Interest in urban library services
Interest in helping children to improve their reading, writing, math, social studies, and science skills
Possess a concrete understanding of basic elementary Math, Science, English, History, and Foreign Language concepts
Computer and basic technology skills such as Microsoft Office Suite and Google Applications

Preferred Qualifications

Working knowledge of the NYC Department of Education Common Core Learning Standards preferred
Ability to speak foreign languages preferred
