DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Houston Public Library is seeking a dynamic and innovative Librarian V to work as the Senior Manager of Customer Experience Administration. The Librarian V will coordinate all hiring efforts for the frontline staff in Customer Experience and will supervise the Customer Experience Training Location that serves as a learning laboratory for new staff. In addition, the Librarian V will liaise with other divisions of Houston Public Library including Digital Strategies, SPACES, Communications, Organizational Development, Financial Services, FIDS, and Organizational Development.
The selected candidate will be detail-oriented and knowledgeable about current library issues and trends. The Librarian V serves as part of the Customer Experience Administration team and plays a critical role in leading HPL. HPL serves a population of 2.2 million citizens through a network of 37 Neighborhood Libraries spread out across the Houston area, a Central Library, and three Special Collections Libraries.
The essential duties and functions of the position include but are not limited to the following:
Coordinating all hiring efforts for frontline staff for Neighborhood Libraries, Central Library and the three Special Collections Libraries, including posting positions, developing interview questions, forming interview panels, and providing a smooth onboarding process in addition to meeting regularly with Human Resources;
Directly supervising and mentoring the manager of the Training Location to strategically integrates the hiring process to the training plans of new employees;
Serving as an organizational leader with a focus on continuous improvement and serves as a large-scale project manager for grants and other projects;
Cooperatively working with other Divisions of Houston Public Library to ensure smooth operations of Customer Experience;
Responding to customer comments and representing Houston Public Library at community meetings; and
Developing new initiatives and strategies to further the service priorities of the Houston Public Library.
There are no major sources of discomfort, i.e., essentially normal office environment with acceptable lighting, temperature and air conditions.
Requires a Master's degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited program.
Four (4) years of experience as a librarian are required, including two (2) with management responsibility.
Valid Driver's License and compliance with the City of Houston policy on driving (AP 2-2).
Preference will be given to those who have:
Leadership experience in a large urban library including personnel management and supervision.
Strong analytical abilities to gather and interpret data and develop strategies as part of continuous improvement of the organization.
Experience working with people of diverse backgrounds;
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with others;
Proficient knowledge of MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, and Word)

Factors used in determining the salary offered include the candidate's qualifications as well as the pay rates of other employees in this classification.
