To continue our excellence in program and services, the library seeks a vibrant, customer focused, and dynamic Library Associate. Working with Archives Research Center team this position will be responsible for assisting with the processing, preserving, researching, and acquisition of archival, historical, and special collections materials. This is position will require evening and weekend work on a rotational basis.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assists in arranging and describing manuscript collections to provide access to researchers utilizing preservation and organizational techniques, processing procedures, and archival standards. This also includes inventorying, labeling, re-housing, preserving, drafting series descriptions, and using the ArchivesSpace to create finding aids.
Assists with reference service needs and conducting research to answer inquiries regarding archival collections.
Assists with the administrative needs of the archives; includes monitoring and ordering archives supplies, clerical duties, and organizing departmental files.
Assists with planning and preparation of exhibits that highlight archival collections.
Effective analytical, interpersonal, organizational, and oral and written communications skills
Knowledge of standard library methods and classification systems
Experience in an archives or reference department
Strong customer service experience; ability to work independently and as a member of a team
Commitment to working in a culturally diverse environment
Demonstrated experience working with integrated library systems and web resources available in an academic and/or public library
Demonstrated experience with standard office software such as Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Ability to learn and implement new technology
Demonstrated ability to perform detailed tasks with a high degree of accuracy.
Demonstrated skill to implement and adapt to change and balance multiple tasks and work priorities in a fast paced environment
Ability to assess and prioritize multiple tasks and projects
Ability to take initiative and be accountable for results
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree or substantial relevant library experience
Knowledge of African American history
