Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the Community Library Manager, Part-Time Children’s Librarians provide a wide range of innovative services to children in Queens. As advocates for our young library users, they provide reference, readers’ advisory and information services to children using both traditional print and online resources. In addition, Part-Time Children’s Librarians develop and present programs, build and manage collections, and provide library outreach to schools and other neighborhood organizations. Additionally, Part-Time Children’s Librarians assist customers of all ages, particularly but not only, with the youth collection. Performs other duties as required.
Rate of Pay:
The rate of pay for this position depends upon the number of credits completed for the MLS/MLIS degree.
Afternoon schedule with a maximum of 17 hours per week.
Part-time positions do not offer any medical or health benefits.
MLS/MLIS degree from an ALA-accredited library school and eligibility for NYS librarian certification or enrollment in an MLS/MLIS degree program. Graduate or undergraduate coursework and/or experience in a Child related field preferred. Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills required. Familiarity with Children’s materials, services and programming required. Must be interested in working in an ethnically diverse urban community. Fluency in a second language spoken in Queens is preferred.
