University Library Technician, Access Services
This position serves as Access Services Library Technician and Overnight Shift Supervisor for the NCSU Libraries. The incumbent oversees information and circulation services at Ask Us service points, fast-paced environments where people go to get help whether itâ??s finding a book or signing up for a tech consultation. This supervisor serves as a communication node across shifts and library locations to ensure smooth and consistent operations at the NCSU Libraries. S/He trains, schedules, and supervises staff; manages materials to support operations and services; and organizes and maintains collections. With others, s/he manages a diverse and high-performing student employee community through recruiting, scheduling, training, and supervision. S/ He monitors and troubleshoots patron computing, printing, and staff computing tools, independently and creatively resolves problems for clients, and assists in ensuring the safety and security of people and materials in a high-volume, high-technology research library. The incumbent has a high degree of autonomy and navigates ambiguity to enable excellent user experiences and make the hard things easy for the NC State community.
High school diploma or equivalency and two years of experience in library services, office support, or related field; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. â?¢ Significant and relevant experience providing public/customer service or delivering instruction â?¢ Demonstrated understanding of the current information and learning needs of students in a college/university setting â?¢ Ability to work effectively in a high-volume, high-demand environment, and to manage multiple, sometimes competing, priorities â?¢ Familiarity with the services, spaces, technology, and collections provided in a modern library environment â?¢ Ability to interpret and explain a wide variety of policies and procedures, varying from basic to complex, to the public, and to exercise independent judgment â?¢ Computing skills, including familiarity across operating systems and fluency with office applications as well as comfort troubleshooting both familiar and new technology â?¢ Attention to detail, time-management, and organizational skills â?¢ Very good written and oral communication skills â?¢ Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships â?¢ Ability to supervise staff â? ¢ Ability to work independently as well as part of a team â?¢ Strong problem-solving skills â?¢ Ability to meet high service standards in all interactions (in-person, by tele****
