Under general supervision, organize, store and retrieve technical Geology information for Freeport-McMoRan staff. Catalogue and index internally produced files, reports and maps.

Manage the classification, cataloging, and storage for internal files, reports, maps and other documents stored on various media

Serve as a resource to Company staff, by conducting research and keeping abreast of current geology topics

Perform literature searches and process technical information requests

Collaborate with Company technical information staff on cataloguing and index practices

Utilize computer software and information database services

Perform other duties as required

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Geology, including familiarity with Economic Geology and Exploration Practices with no experience required

Interest in cataloguing Geologic records

Must have some knowledge of technical Geology literature

Able to research and analyze information of considerable difficulty and draw valid conclusions

Must be extremely detail oriented, precise and accurate in all functions of the position

Skilled in utilizing Internet resources and searching on-line databases

Proficient in utilizing computer software including Microsoft Office suite

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing

Must be able to interact successfully with all levels of staff, clients, and vendors

Must be able to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships

Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions

Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards

Preferred

Prior experience with cataloguing records

Experience with databases and data entry

Proficient in utilizing computer software such as Marc Edit, EndNoteX8, Adobe Acrobat Pro

Criteria/Conditions

Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures given in English

Ability to communicate in English with respect to job assignments, job procedures, and applicable safety standards

Must be able to work in a potentially stressful environment

Work is primarily performed in an office setting

Must be able to travel primarily to site locations near Tucson and Oro Valley, and occasionally to additional site locations as needed

Occasionally work will be performed in a mine or manufacturing plant or outdoor setting, which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity, moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, toxic chemicals, explosives, fumes or airborne particles

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs and ladders, talk, hear and see

Occasionally may be required to lift moderately heavy objects up to twenty-five (25) pounds during the course of the workday

Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine, outdoor, manufacturing or plant environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required

Positions which Freeport-McMoRan has designated as safety sensitive positions in the applicable job or position description and which upon further review continue to be designated as safety-sensitive based on an individualized assessment of the actual duties performed by a specifically identified employee.
