The Library Night Supervisor (Library Assistant 2) staffs the information desk, supervises night and weekend staff, and performs a variety of library tasks to support Galter Health Sciences Library (GHSL) patrons and staff. Prioritizes, directs and responds to matters that arise in the library. Creates and maintains associated documents, and alerts supervisor of critical issues and upcoming events. Answers intermediate level questions about library resources including physical materials, electronic resources, computer hardware and software, and library digital initiatives. Provides superior customer service to internal and/or external customers and may act as point person for competency areas below, coordinating projects and services in those areas. Actively participates in departmental and all-staff meetings as well as one or more working groups based on personal interest and /or need. The individual filling this position will be required to work nights and weekends.

Circulation and Library Access
Works independently at the service desk, assisting patrons and performing a full range of circulation functions in the integrated library system (ILS)
Troubleshoots issues and advanced questions related to the integrated library system (ILS), electronic resources access problems, patron account issues, and location of physical items.
Provides basic interpretation of policies and procedures including access, circulation, and space usage; explains and answers questions that may arise; recommends changes.
Performs basic and advanced fulfillment functions in the (ILS). Guides others in use of ILS.
Gathers, researches and analyzes information and data to resolve problems, investigate trends, answer questions, inform decisions, and improve service models.
Responds to unanticipated issues.
Organizes and coordinates projects and coordinates work of student workers and other library assistants.
Opens and/or closes the library regularly depending on work schedule. May be solely responsible for the physical facility during some hours.
Serves as supervisor to and coordinates the work of night staff and student workers at the service desk.
Delivers in-service training to library assistants and student workers.
Performs other duties as assigned and provides enhanced support as needed in the following service areas:
Print and electronic collection maintenance and troubleshooting
Resource sharing and course reserves
Research and information services
A high school diploma or equivalent required.
Minimum 2 years of library experience or other relevant experience (general office / clerical /customer service / retail) required.
Significant customer service experience in a fast-paced library, retail, or similar environment.
Intermediate computer skills and knowledge of multiple software programs.
Strong customer service skills.
Exceptionally reliable and have demonstrated reliability in prior work experience.

3+ years of experience in a library or equivalent environment, in particular an academic or research library.
Familiarity with standard library methods and procedures.
Familiarity with Alma integrated library system, ILLiad interlibrary loan management software, and / or Ares course reserves management software.
Bibliographic searching experience.
Previous supervisory or project coordination experience.
Experience working with technical and archival metadata standards.
Knowledge of descriptive metadata standards.
Experience working with digital assets and digital technologies.

Demonstrated ability using interlibrary loan systems and software.
Basic skills in Microsoft access or other relational database query language.
