PRIMARY FUNCTIONS AND POSITION OVERVIEW
**MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. (GCCS) is a Harlem-based International Baccalaureate (IB) World School that is innovative, inquiry-based, culturally competent, and provides students with a comprehensive and rigorous curriculum that encourages critical and creative thinking.
The Library Media Specialist collaborates with teaching staff in the development of student literacy through the administration of the library media program. Provides instruction in and access to library information resources and programs for students, staff and the entire school community. Oversees the selection, organization, utilization and maintenance of library, information, and curriculum resources.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Coordinating knowledge of students, instructional content and curricular resources to design differentiated lesson plans aligned to the Common Core standards and units of inquiry.
Collaboratively plans, teaches and evaluates, with classroom teachers, instructional lessons or units, which integrates information literacy and/or technology skills into the classroom curriculum.
Evaluate academic achievement and progress towards learning objectives through detailed data analysis of student performance on a wide variety of metrics; Utilize student data collected to drive instruction and intervention
Engaging in coaching cycles and implementing research-based strategies that maximize their own performance and that of their students
Reflecting on their own progress as educators and seeking out professional resources to continuously improve their practice
Managing student behavior and classroom routines to maximize learning time and create a positive learning environment
Fosters a positive attitude toward the use and communication of information by students and teachers and creates an environment where literature and language are valued
Actively participating in professional development workshops as laid out in the school and professional development calendars
Uses a wide variety of teaching methods, media, and ways of communicating information to ensure that students can access and use all types of information sources
Promotes and demonstrates the use of new technologies and media with teachers and other adults
Makes resources available to students and teachers through a systematically developed collection within the school: manages selection and ordering of materials through a process, which involves teachers, administrators, students, and parents; administers budgets for library media resources
Provides access to the library media center collection and instructional materials through the management of an accurate and efficient organization and retrieval system. Assists students in identifying, locating and interpreting information found in both print and digital resources
Model, promote and embody the International Baccalaureate learner profile to create a cohesive school culture of academic success and family
Supporting the school as directed by the Chief Academic Officer and Assistant Chief Academic Officers
QUALIFICATIONS
A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university a must.
An M.A., Ed.M or Master’s degree in education preferred.
New York State Certification for relevant grades or demonstrated process towards obtaining certification
A minimum of 2 years of demonstrated success as a full-time elementary classroom teacher.
Demonstrated success working in a high-performing, urban school setting preferred.
Evidence of excellence in teaching through continuous learning and data analysis
Be a team player - a desire to work in a team-oriented environment and collaborate effectively with colleagues
