The University of California San Diego Library seeks applications from highly motivated, innovative, collaborative, and service-oriented professionals to join the Library as our Clinical Librarian (Associate or Full Librarian). This is an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to restart the Library's clinical information services after a multi-year hiatus. The successful candidate for this position will reestablish and grow Library services in support of the University's Health enterprise. UC San Diego Health is a network of clinical service points including the La Jolla and Hillcrest medical complexes in addition to the Shiley Eye Institute, Moores Cancer Center, and the Sulpizio Cardiovascular Center. It incorporates the Regional Burn Center, a Level 1 Trauma Center and a Comprehensive Stroke Center. Employing more than 1,500 faculty physicians and 8,900 employees total, UCSD Health is also affiliated with Rady Children's Hospital--San Diego, Veterans' Affairs HealthCare System, San Diego and El Centro Regional Medical Center. Each medical complex supports acute in-patient care and a spectrum of outpatient primary and specialty medical and surgical services. The UC San Diego Library plays a critical role in advancing and supporting the University's educational, research, patient care, and public service objectives by providing world-class information resources and services - expertly managed and expediently delivered. The Library's Academic Liaison Program (ALP) provides liaison services and subject expertise in support of the Library's mission to meet the diverse and evolving teaching, learning, and research needs of our users. The Program provides a framework for collaborative academic outreach, research support, and instructional services customized to meet the needs of University faculty, staff, and students. Responsibilities of the Position The Clinical Librarian reports to the Assistant Director of the Library's Academic Liaison Program (ALP). In support of the UC San Diego Health enterprise, the Clinical Librarian will develop, implement and lead professional information services for health care providers, educators, and researchers at UCSD's hospitals and community based clinics. Serve as primary point person and actively engage with UCSD's Health Services clinicians, hospitalists and residents to develop information services and resources that meet their needs. Promote and extend library services at the following UCSD sites: Jacobs Medical Center, Hillcrest Medical Center, Shiley Eye Institute, Moores Cancer Center, the Sulpizio Cardiovascular Center, and the Altman Clinical Translational Research Institute. In collaboration with liaisons for Nursing and Allied Health, the School of Medicine, and Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, develop an innovative outreach program that promotes and enhances awareness and use of library information resources and services by clinicians. Attend hospital rounds, case conferences, and other clinically relevant forums, and provide information as requested using current technology and resources. Provide services supporting evidence-based practice, data management, scholarly communication, and advocacy of relevant information technologies in clinical settings. Maintain awareness of emerging information technology trends in health care and awareness of their potential impact on clinical practice, education and research. Partner with other librarians to develop and implement liaison activities such as office hours, consultation services and workshops at clinical sites. Develop and provide instruction in a variety of formats on topics such as evidence-based clinical practice, research tools, data management, and scholarly communication. Provide general reference and research assistance and serve as the primary subject specialist for clinically focused topics. Collaborate in the development and maintenance of health sciences collections in all formats to support teaching, learning, research and patient care needs. Facilitate access and services for UCSD faculty at affiliated hospitals and voluntary clinical faculty at remote clinical sites throughout San Diego County. Librarians at UC San Diego are academic appointees and entitled to appropriate professional leave and all other perquisites granted to non-faculty academic personnel. Salary and level of appointment in the Librarian series commensurate with qualifications and experience and based on the University of California pay scales.

Five years' experience working in an academic, research or clinical library in two or more of the following areas: liaison services, collection development, reference, and/or instruction. Undergraduate degree in a Health Sciences or related field or demonstrated knowledge of these subjects as academic disciplines. Strong understanding of library services to support clinical operations and research. Understanding of informatics concepts and ability to apply them in a clinical setting. Familiarity with electronic and scholarly resources and reference tools related to healthcare. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Excellent analytical and organizational skills. Ability to plan, document, and complete projects. Strong commitment to excellence in service and ability to work both independently and collaboratively with faculty, students, staff and colleagues from diverse backgrounds. Strong commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion in higher education. Preferred Qualifications Prior experience working in an academic health sciences or biomedical library or academically affiliated clinical environment. Documented record of providing innovative services to clients in a clinical setting. Knowledge of the application of evidence based practice resources in the clinical environment. Experience or training in providing support for systematic reviews.
