Overall Job Objective Basic Function Basic FunctionThe City of Coppell Library Clerk provides friendly and professional circulation services to citizens, and clerical support for technical services. Regular attendance is an essential job function. The Library Clerk works a 20-hour schedule, including weekends every three weeks, and one weekday evening every week. Must provide excellent communications skills and exceptional customer service. Proficient in Microsoft Office. Essential Job Functions Essential Job Functions Provide excellent customer service to residents and library users through good communication, a willingness to assist with customer requests, and the ability to follow through to ensure positive interactions with the public.Understand and be able to explain library policies and procedures; respond to and handle difficult patron inquiries and complaints.Check-out/check-in library materials by data entry into the integrated library system (ILS); evaluate materials for damage, sort materials alphabetically and numerically, and move materials to and from book drop bins, carts or shelves.Collect and record fines/charges for overdue or lost materials or sales items; count and wrap money; prepare daily cash reports.Verify, enter and maintain confidential patron information in the ILS.Assist patrons both on the telephone and in person with directional questions and account information, referring citizens to other staff members as needed.Perform holds/requests management, including running reports and hold shelf maintenance. Retrieve materials for hold shelf from pull list and remove held items from unclaimed (expired) list as appropriate.Receive new materials from vendors by checking against invoices and enter receipt into ILS.Process new materials to include wrapping, stamping, and applying labels and security strips; pack, unpack and move boxes; process items for withdrawal and delete from ILS. Retrieve, process, and return interlibrary loan materials.Receive, process, and withdraw magazines and enter into ILS, as appropriate.Sort and shelve library materials alphabetically and/or numerically by the Dewey Decimal System; search for lost/missing items; monitor and maintain shelf order.Prepare for daily opening and closing of library.Collect and record security gate count information on a daily basis.Read, send or reply to electronic mail on a daily basis.Assist with set-up of library program room for library programs as requestedUnder the direction of a librarian, assist with the presentation of programs, as requested.Perform other related duties as requested, assigned or required. Minimum Requirements ExperienceThe Library Clerk must possess a high school diploma or equivalency. One year of library experience is preferred. Ideal candidate will have previous municipal library experience and higher education. Must be customer service oriented. Bilingual candidate is a plus.
