Overview
The Development department raises private funds from individuals, foundations, andcorporations to support the Library\u2019s general operations as well as specific projects; thesefunds supplement the public support the Library receives from the City, State, and federalgovernment. The Planned Giving team is one part of this effort and works closely withIndividual Giving and other teams in the department and with other Library constituents.
Principal Responsibilities
The Manager of Planned Giving is a member of the Development team in charge of assistingthe Director of Planned Giving on all aspects of a comprehensive planned giving program,primarily including the administration of the Library\u2019s estate program, identifying, cultivating,and tracking prospects; drafting planned giving marketing materials and proposals; andsoliciting and stewarding planned giving donors.
Minimum Qualifications

Handle the administration of the Library\u2019s estate program, including tracking and processing estate gifts, drafting correspondence and reports, and interfacing with estate representatives
Assist the Director of Planned Giving with the administration of the Library\u2019s Life Income Gift Program, including sending gift illustrations to prospects and drafting gift agreements, as well as annual reporting and other back-end tasks
Support planned giving marketing efforts in direct mail and electronic communications, in collaboration with the Membership and Online program.
Work closely with the director on prospect cultivation initiatives including 3-5 estate and gift planning seminars annually, and developing planned giving marketing collateral for brochures, newsletters, and donors and member literature
Assist Director in systems for cultivation, stewardship, and prospect and donor tracking on donor database.
Review and negotiation of proposed planned gifts to ensure that they are consistent with the Library\u2019s mission, gift policy, and funding needs and are not overly restrictive; in some cases, consultation with the General Counsel\u2019s Office is advisable (e.g., gifts that impose enduring obligation on Library)
Balancing need to cultivate and steward donors and other responsibilities; handling \u201cproblem\u201d donors effectively but politely

Work Environment
Office setting, but donor meetings regularly take place in other Library facilities and off site. Events will take place in various Library facilities and may extend beyond regular working hours.
