Job Summary

This position will be a full-time, three-year term appointment with the possibility of renewal.

In keeping with the library’s mission to collect, describe, preserve, and make available the record of human knowledge, the Special Collections Research Center acquires, cares for, interprets, and promotes the use of important collections of unique, rare, primary source, and other material in all formats and in a variety of subject areas. Our holdings consist of approximately 300,000 volumes and more than 8,000 linear feet of archival and manuscript material.
The Special Collections Research Center is in the process of developing and implementing a programmatic approach to ensuring that its collections in all formats and across all collecting areas are appropriately accessioned, described, discoverable, and available for use. Contributing directly to that effort and working primarily with Screen Arts Mavericks & Makers collections, the individual in this position will have an opportunity to participate in service delivery and priority setting for the Center and to apply and develop knowledge of filmmaking and independent film. The Processing Archivist will report to the Collection Services Librarian.

Responsibilities*
Process archival and manuscript collections consisting of material in all formats.
Identify materials in need of conservation and perform basic preservation and rehousing tasks as necessary.
Accession accretions and new collections of archival and manuscript material in all formats.
Supervise and evaluate the work of staff and student assistants working on accessioning, processing, and other collections-related projects.
Develop, document, implement, evaluate, and revise as necessary relevant policies and procedures.
Contribute to the establishment of processing priorities in consultation with curators and other Special Collections staff.
Participate in the evaluation and implementation of technology solutions and other strategies for improving work processes and facilitating access to collection material.
Assist with collections assessment, the conversion of legacy finding aids, barcoding and shelf-reading, and other collections-related projects.
Assist with staffing the service desk in the Reading Room and with retrieving and re-shelving collection material.
Required Qualifications*
ALA-accredited master's degree or equivalent combination of a relevant advanced degree and experience.
Two or more years of experience accessioning and/or processing collections of archival and manuscript material.
Familiarity with tools, trends, issues, standards, and best practices in the description and management of archival and manuscript collections.
Excellent interpersonal and oral and written communication skills.
Excellent organizational, time, and project management skills.
Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively in a diverse, dynamic, team setting.
Understanding of the value of diversity and the importance of inclusion as demonstrated through a commitment to apply and incorporate the differences, complexities, and opportunities that diversity brings to an organization.
Desired Qualifications*
Supervisory, project management, or other experience directing the work of others.
Experience accessioning or processing collections containing born-digital and/or audio-visual materials.
Experience processing large and/or complex collections of archival and manuscript material.

Benefits, rank, salary
Appointment is anticipated at the Associate Librarian rank. Salary and rank dependent on the candidate's qualifications and experience. Librarian appointments carry with them increased expectations regarding professional development, professional engagement, research, and service, in keeping with the library's process for librarian promotion and advancement.
The target salary range for this position is $59,000 - $62,000 for the Associate Librarian rank. The actual salary offered may vary based on the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate.
